Leon's Stories: Santa Cruz in the Sixties and Beyond
A Picture Album of Sorts was created as an assignment in a web course at Cabrillo College in 1997. It contains photos and stories. The stories are responses to questions posed to me on the Beat-L list. The members of that list were enthusiastic fans of the beat literary movement. When they discovered that I was a close friend of one of their heroes, Neal Cassady (Dean Moriarty of Kerouac's On the Road), for the last nine years of his life (1926-1967), I was asked all kinds of questions about him. The stories are my responses. A fitting start here, since it was Neal who got me involved in the hip scene in Santa Cruz to begin with, as it happens, in 1964, the year chosen for starters by the founders of this project.
