Heavy Metal Cheerleaders is currently a six person entity: Niki Ford, Melissa Burnell, Gina Carducci, Michael Erle, Bobby McCole, and Tasha Wilson. The team works to redirect the virility and intensity of classic heavy metal lyrics through translation that incorporates traditional cheerleading-type routines and dance; resulting in performances that are aggressively spirited and inclusive.

Niki Ford earned her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1997. She performs solo and collaborative projects with pirated and interpretative narratives. After having been a contributing member of the Art Cheerleaders in 2000, she relocated from Boston to Oakland and formed Heavy Metal Cheerleaders.
