What Is Detour 888?

Kathryn Williamson & Brian Storts, Tuesday September 25th at 9:00PM

Kathryn Williamson's concepts, inspired from her personal and psychological experiences, address the absurd and humorous notions found in today's perception of Women. Encouraged vanity and the labels associated with the Woman as the decorative object allow her to explore the various roles of modern, domestic, famous and otherwise victims of a social stereotype. She finds the empowerment necessary in raising our awareness surrounding the misconceptions of today's Woman. Kathryn's latest projects involve going into character; or rather finding herself in the nonsensical personas modern society has cultivated. In September she will attempt to vacuum living rooms across the country.

Brian Storts has recently been working on ideas that evolve from a curiosity found in the notion of expectation. The kind of self induced expectation found in the purity of an idea behind a mask of uncertainty. By questioning his own intentions, his concepts become formulated from an intuitive honesty. "This is not an uncommon practice in my process, but my efforts to comprehend the relationship between myself and the world around me forces me to expect that what ever its is that I am doing means everything and nothing at all." Brian's latest projects involve making dinner for SF Bay area patrons, making his renowned glow in the dark paintings for friends and books, and mowing lawns across the country.
