What is Detour 888?

Circumventing the traditional gallery structure, Detour888 has decided to take a different path in curating and exhibiting contemporary artists in San Francisco.

Detour888 is a temporary project space with a life span of six months. The calendar consists of six one-month series, at the conclusion of which, the project space will be closed and the physical structure demolished. The shows scheduled reflect the ephemeral nature of the space through their structure, themes, and content.

Openings are being held on an accelerated weekly basis and each performance, screening or other work will only be on view for one evening (unless other arrangements are made between viewers and the artists). The intention in providing Detour888 as an evanescent context is to ensure the integrity of the art as an experience.
