Satcons Integral Suspension And Motor (ISAM) products uniquely integrate an electric motor and magnetic bearing into one low profile unit. Satcons ISAM uses a low level magnetic field to support, spin or "lock" the rotor.
The non contact rotor floats in the process chamber and is actively controlled by external displacement sensors. The displacement sensors don't need to "see" the rotor. A non-electrically conductive insert will be sufficient. The ISAM is capable of indexing and locking the rotor in dicrete and angular positions. All active portions of the motor and magnetic bearings are located on the outside of the process or vacuum chamber to improve reliability and maintainability.
Satcon offers designs for a wide range of rotor sizes with rotational speed ranges to suit each application. The ISAM concept is very flexible and compact, allowing the motor and magnetic elements to be installed with the rotor either on the inside or the outside. The large clearances between the rotor and the chamber wall allow operation over a wide temperature range.
