What is the Rolf® Institute?

The Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado, was established in 1971 by Dr. Rolf to teach the principles of Structural Integration.  It is also an international organization with classes held in Munich, Germany, Sydney, Australia and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Currently there are about 1,000 Rolfing practitioners in twenty six countries throughout the world who treat an estimated 150,000 individuals per year.  It is estimated, at this time, that about one million people have experienced the Rolfing process of Structural Integration.

Dr. Rolf gave this body of work the name Structural Integration, which it still holds, and is a very good short description of what it is.  Rolfing can be seen as the brand name, such as Kleenex® tissues or Xerox® copiers.  Some Rolfing practitioners and teachers have taken Dr. Rolf's principles and developed their specific applications of Structural Integration.  Joseph Heller is the founder of Hellerwork; Judith Aston developed Aston Patterning; Robert Hall and Richard Heckler founded the Lomi School of BodyWork; and Dick Stenstadvold, Emmett Hutchins and Peter Melchior have established the Guild for Structural Integration.
