BARBOUR, RALPH HENRY:

BEHIND THE LINE -- Appleton, 1902. A VG hardbound, no dj. A great story of "football and college life". Cover shows slight wear, and one front corner is dented, as though book was dropped at one time. Internally, clean and solid, "Library of Willard P. Chandler" sticker on front free endpaper. $25.00

ON YOUR MARK -- Appleton, 1908. A VG- hardbound copy (no dj), with light overall ageing. $10.00

TOUCHDOWN PASS -- Number 1, a VG pc. $10.00

CHAMPIONSHIP BALL -- Number 2 is a bright pc, but with spine edge and bottom wear. $10.00

STRIKE THREE! -- This copy is VG, in a Good, mylar-protected dj that's nice and bright, but shows some wear and creasing. Lists to Triple-Threat Trouble. $15.00

STRIKE THREE! -- A VG picture cover copy of #3, with a little sticker residue on front cover. $10.00

PITCHER'S DUEL -- Number 6, lists to Payoff Pitch. VG/VG-. Book is clean and solid, no markings. Dj is bright and colorful, does showing slight wearing to spine top and along front fold. A clean, solid copy that shows nicely. $25.00

A PASS AND A PRAYER -- Number 7 is a VG- pc, with slight wear to the spine top and bottom. $15.00

A PASS AND A PRAYER -- This number 7 is VG/VG. Book is clean, bright and with no wearing or problems (lists to Backboard Fever), dj is clean, bright and unfaded, does have a small closed tear on front and one on bottom of front fold. A very attractive copy in dj. $30.00

BACKBOARD FEVER -- Number 10, a VG- picture cover. Light fading, edge wear, and a sticker scar impacting Chip's face on the front. Lists to Buzzer Basket on back. $15.00

FENCE BUSTERS -- Number 11, a VG+ pc (lists to Buzzer Basket). Clean, bright and solid, with only a little rubbing to the back cover. A really nice copy. $35.00

TEN SECONDS TO PLAY -- VG/Good-. Number 12 (lists to Hardcourt Upset). Book is clean and solid, dj has good color, but shows significant wearing, esp. to folds and spine top. $20.00

FOURTH DOWN SHOWDOWN -- Number 13 is a VG+ pc, with only a tiny bit of spine fading and edge wear to the very top of the spine. Very clean and bright throughout, bright cover. Lists to Buzzer Basket. $35.00

TOURNAMENT CRISIS -- Number 14, lists to itself. VG/VG-. Book is very clean and solid, dj bright and colorful, shows chipping to spine top and bottom, also wear along front fold (fold has a one-inch split in middle). Still a very nice copy. $35.00

HARDCOURT UPSET -- Number 15, lists to Payoff Pitch. VG/VG-. Book is clean and bright, solid. Dj has great color, very little edge wear, but does have wear/small split on front fold. A nice copy, hard to find in dj. $35.00

TRIPLE-THREAT TROUBLE -- This is a VG pc of the hard-to-find 18th volume in the series, but unfortunately, it ain't perfect. Cover is very bright, spine shows only a little fading, no page or edge wear, and only a little scuffing on the back. But, also on the back, it looks like someone took a scissors and cut off about a quarter-inch of the lower left corner! $25.00

TRIPLE-THREAT TROUBLE -- A VG+ pc of #18 (lists to #20 inside and on back). Clean, bright and solid, a tiny bit of edge wear, otherwise really nice. $45.00

BUZZER BASKET -- Number 20, lists to this title. A VG pc, with slight spine lightening and a slight spine crease, otherwise very nice. A very solid first ed. $45.00

BOWEN, ROBERT SIDNEY:

PLAYER-MANAGER -- G&D. VG/VG-. Book is clean and solid, dj bright and colorful, with some dampstaining and light edge wear. Part of the G&D Famous Sports Stories Series. $7.50

DAWSON, ELMER A.:

GARRY GRAYSON'S HILL STREET ELEVEN -- G&D, 1926. Volume one in the series (lists to number 4). Book is VG, dj Good, with a tear to spine top, removing "Garry", and a larger piece missing on the front, taking out the author's first name. Bright art, unfaded spine, an interesting sports rarity. $7.50

GARRY GRAYSON'S DOUBLE SIGNALS -- Whitman, 1931 (G&D date). Whitman reprinted only volumes 8 and 9 from this series, and this is a VG/VG- copy of #9, next-to-last in the series. Book is clean and solid, with usual page browning, dj is very bright and colorful. Does show edge wear and chipping, especially at spine top and bottom (part of "Garry" and part of the "G" in "Grayson" is lost at the spine top.) Still an attractive copy. $25.00

DRADY, ALAN:

RED MORTON WATERBOY -- Appleton, 1932 (1st ed.). VG/VG. A tremendously rare title by the Director of Athletics at Sacred Heart College High School, this story follows the senior year of Red Morton as he saves the big game for St. John's. A classic, and very rare in dj. $50.00

FERGUSON, DONALD:

SCRANTON HIGH CHUMS ON THE CINDER PATH -- World, 1919. VG/VG (page browning, slight edge wear to dj). A clean, attractive copy of number three from the four-volume Scranton High Chums series. $10.00

GREY, ZANE:

THE SHORTSTOP -- G&D, 1909 (McClurg copyright, 1937 Zane Grey copyright). VG/VG. In addition to hundreds of westerns, this renowned writer also wrote a hard-to-find boys sports series. This volume is in nice conditon, with typical page browning, and comes in a very nice dj (no fading, good art, slight wearing to top and bottom of dj spine). A real rarity, especially in a good dj! $25.00

MCCORMICK, WILFRED -- BRONC BURNETT

LEGION TOURNEY -- A VG pc of #2, with only a tiny bit of edge wear and a very small scar below the "A" on the front ("A Bronc Burnett Story"), previous owner's name on front blank endpaper. $10.00

EAGLE SCOUT -- Number 5, VG+/VG+. Exceptionally attractive, clean and bright. $25.00

EAGLE SCOUT -- Number 5, a VG picture cover. Very slight edge wear, tiny sticker scar on front. No page or binding issues, a bright cover and spine. $15.00

FLYING TACKLE -- A VG #8, picture cover. A little very light rubbing, and slight edge wear to the spine top, otherwise very clean and bright. $15.00

QUICK KICK -- A VG/VG #9. Book lists to itself (thus a first printing, G&D, not the Putnam first edition), and both book and dj are clean, bright and solid. A very nice copy, with only minimal edge wear to dj. $25.00

QUICK KICK -- When they reprinted the series (Putnam did 1-11, followed by McKay for 12-23, then Bobbs-Merrill, followed by G&D), G&D did some interesting things with numbers, so this is also number 9. A VG pc, with slight edge wear and a tiny bit of scuffing to the back. $20.00

ONE-O'CLOCK HITTER -- A VG picture cover copy of #12. Very slight edge wear, a slight indentation on the front cover, and a little sticker residue. Book is clean and solid, cover very bright. $20.00

MAN IN MOTION -- G&D, 1961. VG/VG-. Book is clean and solid, dj bright and colorful, does show edge wear and a small wrinkle/tear on lower front. A good copy. $25.00

ROUGH STUFF -- G&D, 1964. A VG picture cover copy of #18. Shows a little scuffing to back cover,and original gold price sticker (affixed to back), otherwise very clean and solid. $25.00

THE GO-AHEAD RUNNER -- Number 22, a VG+ pc. Red remainder mark on the bottom, previous owner's "peel and stick" Dymo-label name label inside, otherwise exceptionally clean, bright and attractive. $50.00

SEVEN IN FRONT -- An extremely rare #23 in the series. Slight lightening of spine, a little light rubbing to back, otherwise exceptionally attractive. A solid VG. $40.00

MCCORMICK, WILFRED (ROCKY MCCUNE):

THE PHANTOM SHORTSTOP -- David McKay, 1963. VG/VG. Ex-library, with spine tag, discard stamps, and dj flaps have been glued to inside of boards. Book is clean and solid, unmarked, dj is bright and unfaded. Number 13 in the 19-volume Rocky McCune baseball series. $35.00

SHERMAN, HAROLD

NUMBER 44 -- G&D, 1930. VG+/VG+. Very bright and clean, bright dj. $15.00

CRASHING THROUGH -- G&D, 1932. VG+/VG. (Dj clean, bright and unfaded, does have a closed tear on bottom front, through author's name, but no pieces missing). A very nice copy. $15.00

VERRAL, CHARLES SPAIN:

CAPTAIN OF THE ICE -- SBS, 1964 (paperback). A VG copy of Verral's exciting hockey story. $3.50

THE BOYS' LIFE BOOK OF FOOTBALL STORIES -- Random House, 1963. A VG picture cover hardbound (no dj), with stories from authors including Howard Brier and William Heuman. Gift inscription on front endpaper, otherwise clean and solid. $10.00

AFTER THE GAME -- Dodd, Mead, 1972. VG/VG (ex-library). Great sports writing from Dan Jenkins, Norman Mailer, Grantland Rice and more. $5.00

BEST SPORTS STORIES (1949) -- Dutton, 1950 (1st ed.). VG hardcover, no dj. A collection of the best sports stories of 1949. Includes Bob Considine, Bob Stevens, Red Smith, W.C. Heinz and many more. $5.00

HOW TO PLAY WINNING BASEBALL -- G&D, 1970. By Arthur Mann. Outsized hardbound, illustrated with more than 100 how-to-do-it pictures, from throwing a curve to turning a double play. Wearing to the spine base and corner points, no other markings. A great coaching tool. $10.00

DEMPSEY -- A VG paperback. The autobiography of one of the greatest fighters of all time, as told to reporters Bob Considine and Bill Slocum. Lots of B&W photos. $7.50

BASKETBALL'S GREATEST TEAMS --  Putnam's, 1965. By Al Hirshberg. Part of the "Putnam Sports Shelf." Ex-library picture cover (no dj). Good+, with cover edge wear. Pages very clean, binding solid. The exploits of teams like the St. John's "Wonder Five," the Minneapolis Lakers, the Harlem Globetrotters and many more. Lots of B&W photos. $5.00

BASEBALL EXTRA -- Barnes, 1954. By Frank Graham. A VG/VG album of sports profiles by sportswriter Frank Graham. Pepper Martin, Bill Dickey, Augie Donatelli and many more. $20.00

GEORGE HALAS AND THE CHICAGO BEARS -- Regnery, 1971. VG/VG-, with slight spotting to dj. A history of Papa Bear and his team, by Chicago Daily News sportswriter George Vass. $10.00

FOOTBALL SCOUTING -- Prentice-Hall, 1955. VG/VG (ex-library, with spine tag, card pocket, etc.) By Robert MacKenzie. "A complete handbook of football scouting." $12.50

BILL STERN'S FAVORITE FOOTBALL STORIES -- Doubleday, 1950. VG/VG- (ex-library, with spine tag, card pocket, etc.) A collection of stories by famed broadcaster Bill Stern. $10.00

NEVER LOOK BACK -- The autobiography of jockey Billy Pearson, written by Pearson and Stephen Longstreet. Ex-library. VG/VG, loaded with vintage B&W photos. The jockey who "stole more races than Dillinger robbed banks." $20.00

JOCK SUTHERLAND ARCHITECT OF MEN -- Exposition Press, 1954 (stated 1st ed.). VG/VG. A really nice copy of an exciting bio of famed college and pro coach Jock Sutherland. Book is clean and solid, dj bright and colorful (a few closed tears and a tiny bit of edge wear). $12.50

1947 -- WHEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE IN BASEBALL -- by Red Barber. Famous as the voice of both the Dodgers and the Yankees, this is Barber's tale of baseball in 1947, the year Jackie Robinson shattered the color barrier. Doubleday, 1982 (stated first ed.). VG/VG, with gift inscription on front blank endpaper and a little gentle edge wear to the top and bottom of the dj spine. A real classic, and a great look at a key time in baseball. $20.00

COLLIER'S GREATEST SPORTS STORIES -- A.S. Barnes, 1955. VG/VG- (edge chipping, a few closed tears). Here's a collection of the greatest sports writing to appear in Collier's Magazine, both fiction and non-fiction, between 1899 and 1955. Includes Walter Camp, Arthur Conan Doyle, Paul Gallico, Red Smith and dozens of others. Great sports history. $5.00
