What an evening we have planned for you! You must attend the highlight of the Convention 2003 social activities on Saturday, the 27th, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., in the Jewett Ballroom of the City Center Marriott Hotel. The cost is $60 for Leaguers and $65 for others. Reservations must be made by May 5th.
At 6:00 p.m. a No Host Happy Hour will take place in the Foyer of the Jewett Ballroom. Dinner at 7:00 p.m.is designed to be delicious and memorable by the Executive Chef, with the freshest of ingredients and culinary flair, .
The speaker of the evening is United States Representative Barbara Lee of the 9th Congressional District. Congresswoman Lee has had a remarkable and distinguished career in Washington since she was elected in 1998. Her topic will be announced by her office two weeks before she speaks and this space will be updated at that time.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Will Durst, America’s premier political comic. "...he’s a renegade social commentator, or a crusty but benign populist windmill tilter, or how about just a bi-partisan smartass... His performances are made possible by the first amendment."
An additional feature will be the presentation of LWVC’s first Making Democracy Work Awards. For outstanding leadership at the national level, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, the Minority Leader of the United State House of Representatives. For outstanding leadership at the state level, Assemblywoman Wilma Chan, the Majority Leader of the California State Assembly. For outstanding effectiveness, consistency, and integrity of performance by a governmental body, the California Legislative Analyst Office, Elizabeth Hill, Director. For outstanding inspirational and clean political ads aimed at getting voters to vote in the November 2002 election, the Sierra Club, Verizon Wireless, and Kenneth Cole Productions. Display versions of these ads will be exhibited.
