Posted on Sat, Oct. 08, 2005 San Pablo Measure by schools has council support The San Pablo City Council has endorsed Measure J, the West Contra Costa Unified School District's $400 million ballot measure on the Nov. 8 ballot. The vote earlier this week was 4-0-1, with Mayor Joe Gomes abstaining. Gomes said he strongly supports education but was concerned because the measure has no provision to exempt seniors. The proceeds of the measure would pay for school renovations. Property owners would pay about $31 a year per $100,000 of assessed valuation beginning in fiscal year 2006-07 rising to about $60 a year once all the bonds are sold in fiscal year 2013-14, the school district projects. Measure J needs 55 percent voter approval to pass.
