Magohn's Positive Paws
works with positive reinforcement and operant conditioning. Positive Paws training works on the dog and owner relationship. We look for what the dog is doing right and reward it. If your dog is not responding to our way
of training after one training session, e-mail us and we'll figure out
what's not working. You may also want to attend an obedience class or work with a private trainer who uses positive reinforcement.
Here is a listing of trainers or behaviorists in your area.
We recommend that training sessions last a maximum of 15 minutes, 3-5 times a day. It is also imperative that your pet receive enough exercise, especially in the mornings and evenings when dogs are most active. A typical 6 month to 3 year old dog requires about 3-5 miles of exercise a day. A tired dog is a good dog. A fantastic way to exercise your dog both physically and mentally is to participate in fun activities with your dog like agility, flyball, lure coursing or herding. For more information click here.
There are many reasons
to train your dog: to build a relationship with you, to build confidence
in your dog, for safety, and for overall handling of your friend.
If you do not plan on comformation showing of your dog it important to spay and neuter your pet.
Spaying and neutering will not only help with the pet over population problem,
but also take away all the headaches that come from an animal being intact. More information on spaying and neutering here.
