It has come to light that shrub interfered with the FBI's investigation of the Taliban, and their connections with bin Laden and al Queda, because his administration was attempting to negotiate an oil pipeline across Afghanistan that would bring central asian oil to shipping access without it having to go through Russia. When the Afghans refused the offer they were threatened, "Accept our offer of a carpet of gold or you'll get a carpet of bombs."
