Mark McGothigan is a video installation artist, experimental video producer, and senior technical writer for 20+ years. He creates abstract visual images and also documents cutting edge events and performances. His primary artistic interest is to refresh the vision of civilization. He has a broad base of eclectic event experience and technical ability. He has been active in the arts on both the east and west coast for over two decades.
2009
I screened political themed video at the "byby bush" party in Hunters Point SF, which complemented a full scale mobile missile launcher and flaming interactive sculptures.
2008
My most recent major project was technical director for the 2012 Conference in Fort Mason, San Francisco CA. I provided all AV equipment and technical staff, including coordinating a 3 HD cam shoot. This was a 2 building, 3 day, sold out, conference with possibly the most esteemed lineup of Shift experts ever assembled. I also was a featured artist at Yuris nite, April 2008 and 2007. I coordinated building an 11 screen video installation, including screening custom videos onto an experimental NASA plane tailfin, in a NASA hangar at Moffet field in Mountain View CA. In between contract stints in Paris France, http://www.flickr.com/photos/70561827@N00/ I exhibited a large scale video installation at the Regency Ballroom SF (formerly the Avalon ballroom) and was awarded an art honorarium from the Burningman organization to build an interactive video installation placed at the base of the burning man (again- 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006). Videographer at the Woodstock 1997 Bethel reunion at max yasgurs farm new york. http://www.woodstock69.com/woodstock_pics3b.htm . For 3 days, fri sat sun, I had a three camera live mix running into the video truck from where i mixed on the tailgate from two onstage left and right and one camera near the truck plus roving cameras. Several independent videographers contributed footage. that was my last major project before relocating to california. The project was used as a case study by vidionics of the mx1mixer.
1997 Marin county I settled in dillon beach and had a primitive studio where i could here the pacific waves rattle the cliffs. I mixed the 100 hours of footage into a 2 hour mix. the audio could use some help, so I sent the master tape to ken moutenaut to redo in a real studio back east and he handed the mix tape back to me at the buddy miles concert in petuluma in 1999 after having traveled thousands of miles touring
