I'm wondering if the visitor number to the webpage goes back to zero after a period of time because it seems like more than "4" hits would have occurred by now because I think this is my third visit.

My late mother, nee Dorothy Watkins, worked for Voy in the early forties, as a waitress in the restaurant. She spoke fondly of Voy and Uncle Poy all her life, and always wondered why Voy stopped writing in the 1970's. Now, I know why, but Mom passed away in 2003, so I cannot share the information with her. She had tremendous respect and affection for the Wong family, and enjoyed working for them She also spoke fondly of a cook, who often made a special version of chicken almot chow mein just for her, and who, evidently had quite a 'colorful" vocabulary. She recalled a time when she repeated some of his comments, not knowing what she was saying. He quickly told her, with great alarm, "Don't EVER say that!!!!". There is another memory to share. During my childhood, our dining chairs were a set of four from the restaurant, given to my mother, I believe, as a wedding present and a momento. I believe they were originally red, but they were "toned down" a little with a coat of paint. The chairs are long gone, but I still have a small Chinese chest, about 7 inches high, that Voy gave to my mother. For her, as well as myself, I extend best wishes to all the Wong family.

It was wonderful to read about this site in the Press Enterprise article, and to learn some of the history of the Wong family and the restaurant. My family ate at the restaurant regularly back in the 60s and early 70s and it's surprising in hindsight to realize that it was the only Chinese restaurant in town. By the way, if Julie is reading this entry, here's a greeting from your old high school friend Kim. Send me an email sometime and let me know how you're doing.

Your webpage about the Wong's Family is excellent. It provides valueable historical information about the Wong's genealogy, heritage, and culture. It gives understanding to the younger generation.
Are you aware of the Wongs' Family Benevolent Association in Los Angeles? The 22nd National Wong's Family convention was held July 15-17, 2006 in Oakland California. Please contact them if you are interested.
Keep up the good work.

I like the page so far, but it does need more stuff on it--like details about the family.

We live in the Wong house on University! We found Chung King Cafe artifacts in our attic; matchbooks, 2 cardboard people eating hamburgers, a painted rock, gum box, and kid's neclaces! Write back please on the Wong Web Page! P.S. The kitchen still has green and black tiles!

Hello Bonde Family, How interesting to hear from you living in our family home! We're happy to have a family living there that appreciates the old characteristics of the house like the green and black tile in the kitchen. I always liked the green glass knobs on the cabinets. We also liked the sliding French doors, the chandeliers, and the amorphous brick on the fireplace. The rooms seem to keep opening to other rooms don't they? How's the yard? My mom really had a green thumb. She had flowers and vegetables everywhere. As kids, during the fallow period, we would dig canals and islands into the dirt and flood the area with water. We had lots of animals too. 14 cats, a hen that acted like a rooster, ducks, two tortoises, and even a pheasant that escaped.

Dear Wong Family,
Greetings from Austin, Texas. This is probably the oddest note that you will receive all day. My name is Jack Simpson. Recently, whilst purusing a local thrift shop, I came upon a small ashtray from the Chungking Restaurant in Riverside, CA. I purchased it and now I would like to get it back to someone that would appreciate it. I do not want, nor would I accept anything for it. It's just something that I do. Will someone please contact me? Thank you.

Hello Wong Family! It's great to hear from you! We really enjoy living in your family home!
It's a great house! We like the green glass kitchen knobs too! Was the fireplace painted when you lived here? Can you tell us why the second set of pocket doors are in the attic? The rooms do open into other rooms! The yard is great! We have lots of grass and lemon trees! We have roses in the backyard! You did have alot of animals! We also have 2 tortoises! We have 2 finches and 2 dogs! We are a family of 5, ( 3 children )! There is always something to do, living in this house! We plan on painting the outside of it soon!

Dear Bonde Family,
When we lived in the home, the fireplace bricks were in their natural state. The only pocket(French)doors we know of are the sliding doors separating the living room from the dining room.
My mom would be happy to hear you're taking care of the house.
Have fun painting!

Hi Ellen,

I finally took a look at your website. I love the pictures. I wish I could sample the Chungking food again. Very interesting story.
