Maui in March 2004!

Neal an I spent a lovely and extremely romantic 7 nights on Maui on the northwest side in early March.  We did a little hiking, a little whale watching from the condo porch every morning over breakfast, went snorkeling (6 times!) and even took some underwater pictures.  All snorkeling and underwater pictures were made possible by Tom & Diane - what wonderful friends we have!!  We saw giant sea turtles, and fish of every imaginable shape and color.  If I get a scanner I'll put some shots of the fish on here too.

A little exploring brought us upon some tiny villages, reminiscent of Gilligan's island (not really).  The coast at the north tip was lush green, private and quiet.  The water warm, the waves at times were fantastically huge and the weather was always perfect in temperature.  We also attended the Old Lahaina Luau (a most traditional one with a little history lesson), and we ate so much that we each gained about 4 pounds - I kid you not.  It took us each 2 weeks to regain our normal weights.  We also came home with two Hawaiian shirts each and I also found a lovely sundress and Neal gave me a beautiful white-gold Plumeria flower pendant.  This is a symbol of welcoming to the island and that you will one day return.  It won't be hard to convince me to return.  So my pendant is still around my neck reminding me daily of the special trip together, the much needed and overdue vacation and the lovely and subtle fragrance of the Plumeria.  We are also hooked on Macadamia nuts, some new types of fish, and our new shirts are worn frequently to remind us of the great times we had.
