You can find the pattern instruction for the ball on the right in Japanese Temari Balls. The one on the left is really the same pattern but the thread bands are woven over and under. Susan has another version of this pattern and I used to have that one too, but a friend fell in love with it, so I gave it to her. I will make another one eventually. It requires 12 threads at once and that is my least favorite type of design to make. I like the end product, but the process to make one is not very enjoyable for me.

Palm Fronds [pattern]

I saw a version of this ball in a Japanese pattern book. When I first saw it I thought the auther 'cheated' and did it free hand because is just seemed impossible. It took me two trys to get it right. With this same pattern, you could make it look completely different depending on how you pattern the colors and how many colors you use. You have interweave at least two (or possibly four) double threads at a time.
