Another vesion of the kiku. The petals are woven over and under and then wrapped around the ball to form the kiku on the other side. Two 'keeper pins' are used to hold the wrapped threads in pace until the obi is stitched to hold them permanently.

Starfish

This ball was inspired by a picture in a Japanese pattern book. The pattern requires a 32 pole division. What I really wanted to do required a 122 pole division but I discovered that, although I could divide this four inch ball into 122 poles. The design I wanted to do wouldn't work. I will, eventually, give it another try with a 6 inch ball. In the mean time, this didn't turn out too badly.
