1950's era home built in cabinet with stained glass doors - BEFORE

AFTER

BEFORE - a weathered and tired side gate

AFTER

A custom designed mantel makeover example

Before: 1940's home in the valley was in need of an updated mantel. One challenge was to design and build a mantel BEFORE removing the old one

During: The design for the new mantel was provided shortly after meeting with the client. The design is done in 3D providing front, side and perspective views which ensures there is mutual agreement about how the finished project is to look. Here's the front view. The client was going to add marble to the face of their fireplace but later changed their mind.

Installed (before being painted)

The actual mantel is built from the final dimensions established in the design which ensures that the finished project looks the same as the design agreed upon.

Finished - painted

Entry transformation: from a 70's era oak entry...

Before wainscot on walls and stairway, before door treatments and trimwork

to a Neo-Classical Showcase entry

WINDOW SEAT built in

Seems like everyone's home has an area suitable for a window seat. This large yet shallow bay window area previously wasted space was converted into both storage for Christmas ornaments as well as comfortable seating for 5 or 6 adults.

Before: plaster fireplace without a mantel and a wall space begging for a bookcase  After: custom designed and built mantel plus built in cabinet in red oak finished in cherry stain plus crown moulding

Before: a challenging space to add a mantel that would look right - for years, this fireplace remained a plain wall with brick surround (no pic available)

After: custom-designed mantel accentuates the ceiling angles and fits the scale of the room and a granite hearth and face bring life and focus to this living room

Before: Previously, a tall linen closet with shuttered doors (no pic available)

After:

Combination china cabinet, serving counter and china hutch - upper cabinet has custom-made glass insert reinforced shelves

After:

Dining Room china cabinet (this used to be a linen closet with plywood doors)

After:

Dining Room hutch (built in where previously there was just a flat wall)

Dining Room Make-Over: Custom-made wainscot (rail and stile with recessed flat panels, rabetted panel moulding, custom made top rail)  plus new base moulding, window casing and crown moulding before room has been painted. This is NOT plant-on moulding. This wainscot is made in the same way that cabinet doors are made.

Before & During:

After: Furniture-grade custom made wainscot (poplar rail and stiles with bolection moulding) with baseboard, door and window casing and crown moulding

A custom-built mantel designed by Spectacular Trim for a Mission Style den:

Before: A store-bought typical painted mantel

After: Mission influenced mantel (white oak, red cedar and purpleheart - mortise & tenon joinery with hand-cut dovetailed drawers). Picture taken before project was stained and before drawer pulls were installed.

Master Bedroom Dresser and Entertainment Center

This was a custom design with layered crown moulding that wraps the room, large dresser drawers, storage for entertainment equipment, and bookcases on both sides
Ladies' Bathroom

Before: Plain walls and no charm were the style in this dated looking master bathroom. Since the vanity and all amenities were dated, the whole bathroom was renovated.

After: Custom rail and stile wainscot with beadboard panels and custom chair rail treatment  as well as new casings and crown moulding dramatically change the look and feel of the room (and the clawfoot tub and hardwood flooring doesn't hurt either)

Faux ceiling beams

After: ceiling beams

After:  after adding beams

A 1940's home gets a custom-made mantel for a corner fireplace

A 1920's home gets a custom-made window seat for their bay window

*picture is just after installation (before being painted and a cushion added)

before: A bay window that is mostly wasted space

after: a built in that looks original to the home that provides useful seating for 3-4 plus a place for christmas ornament storage

after:

Furniture-grade wainscot with raised panels, baseboard, window casing and crown moulding

after:

Furniture-grade wainscot in shaker style with baseboard

After:

Two matching custom-made garden gates each over 6 ft high made from douglas fir with clear redwood raised panels on both side. Traditional joinery with mortise and tenon construction. Picture taken during installation before final painting
