Nature

There's a tradition on my trips to China of getting at least one really good picture of a bug. Don't ask. This year I hit the jackpot at Wudangshan (plus got some nice pictures of flowers and an animal or two).

The first of many moths.

Purple Cloud Palace was a haven for bugs. I have no idea what most of them were, besides beautiful.

Another neat one.

I love the wings on this guy.

Another beauty.

And look at the wings on this one!

Now, those are antennae.

They weren't all moths.

Wanderer's haven.

An amazing number of insects were clinging to the outside wall of this hall—the Roaming Pilgrim's Hall, which is a sanctuary for traveling Taoists. I guess insects make good Taoists. Does everyone know the story of Chuang Tzu? He dreamed of a butterfly, then wondered if he were dreaming of the butterfly, or if the butterfly were dreaming him. Maybe one of the moths on the wall is me.

By far the best.

A gorgeous Luna moth that one of the locals pointed out to me when he noticed me scurrying around, taking pictures of bugs.

Just little guys.

I had to include a shot of the little freshwater crabs from the swimming hole.

Playing with the kitty.

And the cat who gave me my kitty fix.

Pretty guy.

And the butterfly who dive-bombed us at the top of Wudangshan.

Yes, it was this bright.

And one flower.
