Paula's Obits and Tidbits

Excuse the dust bunnies - I haven't cleaned since I started tracking down my family history. Hey, it's like this. When I found out that one of these lovely ladies from Michigan was my great-grandmother, doing the laundry lost its appeal. Now if I could just figure out which one she is... :)

As you can see, I have this fascinatingly huge platter of kinfolk pasta that just keeps growing. As I unravel one strand, three more appear on another part of the plate. Some strands are long and graceful, while others are short and choppy, almost as though they have yet to be fully developed. I haven't found any Spaghetti-Os. At least, not yet!

Surnames I'm tracking include:

Come back and visit often. I'll be adding more information about our family, including photos and genealogy reports on our various lines.

What You'll Find on These Pages

I remember when my father died, very unexpectedly. I remember sitting cross-legged on the floor, with a pen and a sheet of blank paper, struggling to write an obituary that would do justice to his life. The hometown newspaper mandated a cut-and-dried approach to the notice, which severely curtailed my creative approach to the obit. Who, what, when, where. But there was no "why."

I recall thinking then what a disservice it was to him, to distill his 66 years down to a mere 3 or 4 paragraphs.

But, much like a headstone, it's written proof of an existence. Something to go on "your permanent record."

Many of our family's obits have mistakes -- including my father's, much to my chagrin. But there it is, for posterity. Four or so column inches of ink and newsprint. A life.
