EL-Announce (Education and Library Announcements) allows school and library related vendors and organizations an acceptable, effective way to send announcements, notices and promotional messages to the appropriate people who do want to receive them. All EL-Announce list members have joined on a voluntary basis.Rationale for EL-Announce: This listserver was established as a service to legitimate educational vendors by Mike Eisenberg and Peter Milbury. They are the founders and moderators of LM_NET, the online discussion group for school library media professionals. LM_NET, with approximately 17,000 members, and many more reading through mirror sites and The LM_NET List Archives, is unable to accommodate commercial postings and other promotional announcements. This situation is similar with most of the other K-12 online discussion groups. However, many school librarians and other technology using educators have indicated a need to be able to receive such messages-- if they are truly of a beneficial nature.
EL-Announce (Education and Library Announcements) was therefore started to help ease the pressure for commercial messages to be posted by vendors and commercial entities on LM_NET and other listservs. List members choose to receive these messages by subscribing to EL-Announce. Messages posted to EL-Announce are NOT regarded as SPAM!
EL-Announce is a moderated, read-only list. If you subscribe, you will receive timely announcements of new products, services, or opportunties specificially suited the the education and library fields. This is an announcement list only--there will be no discussion, but you will be able to reply directly to a specific vendor to obtain additional information.
EL-Announce member addresses will not be available to anyone other than the list management.
Posting to EL-Announce is limited only to the selected vendors and organizations who choose to participate and support EL-Announce, thereby helping manage LM_NET with a small annual contribution.
