Wild Habitat

Obtaining Seahorses (July 2001)

The following outlines the Dwarf Seahorses natural habitat and shows  how I gathered my own seahorses on a trip to the Florida Keys.

This is my snorkel gear.

This is the Plastic net that I use to catch the seahorses.  The dark green mesh bottom allows you to see them fairly easily as most are white.

This is the Dwarf Seahorses natural habitat - Turtle Grass beds along the Florida coastline.

These vast Turtle Grass beds are literally teaming with tiny shrimps, live Amphipods (Grammarus), baby brittle starfish and various other plankton.

Here are several wild caught Dwarf Seahorses. There are 5 right in front including a beautiful golden pregnant male at the top.  All of these are still alive and well in my tanks.
