The Battle of the Bands contest was hosted at the now closed JJ's Blues Club in Downtown San Jose on first
street. This was a spur-of-the-moment decision to perform in public, up until this time we played in my
Garage. The Band was filled out with Steve Reynolds on drums and Paul Spawn on Guitar. The
combination of Paul and Tony guitars was really inspiring and it was always fun Playing together.
When I call Johnny Cosmic at work (at a local radio station), he told me this years competition was nearly
finished but if we wanted to play we could take the stage in three weeks. This wouldn’t normally be
enough time to get a good set together but we had been playing together for years and already had a lot
of material worked out. So... we took the stage at eight o'clock on a Wednesday. There was not a lot
of people in the bar that evening, except our friends who came out to see us perform. We played our
Ass’s off and I remember the singer from the next band up saying they could not top our set, however we did
not win. We were not disappointed because JJ's Management liked us and offered us a job. Playing week
nights however was not something we wanted to do and did not pursue the opportunity.
