Tim Upshaw
Tim Began playing Music in the third grade, playing the
Clarinet and oboe with the school band. He fell in love
with the Bass guitar in the eighth grade after hearing
the Motown sounds of James Jamerson and the funk-licks of
Larry Graham of "Sly and The Family Stones". Thinking to
himself "I can do that!..." he talked his parents into
buying him a Bass Guitar. self-taught, Tim spent many hours
in his room "WOOD_SHEDDING" along to the albums of Larry
Graham and Stanley Clark. Through the Years Tim has been
influenced by "Tower Of Power", "Blood, Sweet And Tears",
"Chicago", "and numerous other funk and Jazz Groups. In
high school Tim put the Clarinet aside and joined an R&B
Group called "Windstorm", they played locally around
Oakland. Tim left the group to begin college at UC Berkeley,
to peruse an engineering degree. While at Berkeley Tim played
Bass for the college Jazz Band and latter landed a gig playing
in a Sam Shepherd Play called "The Tooth Of Crime". Since
finishing his degree at San Jose State Tim's Bass playing has
been strictly for pleasure, jamming with the guys in M3-5X and
in his Church.
