I'm a member of the baby boomers. I don't think that anyone will forget that we changed the world. Booming scientific discoveries, changes in musical expression, reminding the world that love was a part of it, sounding the alarm of the missuse of the worlds resources, and uncovering the ugliness of the power politics was all a part of it.
I once told a young man I didn't want to hear about the issues of a rich man from Mass. This is a farm community I yelled. We want to know how to stay alive, put food on the table. Later, I came to admire this man Robert Kennedy, and when the Kennedys died I felt my hope dimm with the loss. I also understood the loss of Martin Luther King Jr.
You see I was a young man just fresh out of Vietnam. A duty I volunteered for because I believed in our duty to protect our country, our families, and our way of life. I never thought for a moment our government would mislead us so badly.
I still thank Jane Fonda and the mothers of America for getting us out of that government shame alive. My hope has never again been so bright.
What happened to our hope, our vision of the future, our idealism?( when did that become a dirty word) Where are our leaders of courage and honesty that can stir us up and cause us to become a part of a greater cause?
