Battle of the Bands in Monterey!
What a great show for Turn this night was. None of the bands from this night get to go on to the finals on Sept. 17, but no matter, Turn rocked the crowd and the crowd gave Turn back one of the best reactions if not the best reactions Turn has ever had. Thanks so much, you guys rock! We had a great time and I think have finally started to get the word out about Turn.
It was:
Friday, September 10, 2004, 10:00 P.M.
$5.00 Cover

The bands rolled a die to determine playing order and first up that night was InBalance, then Turn, and then Flojos Nos Visten.

Turn from Germany has changed their names...sort of. Apparently one of the guys has the rights to "Turn" there and the artwork but the rest of the guys are continuing as TURN UP. Since http://www.mp3.com site went away, I haven't seen any word about the band Turn from Ohio. Last I heard/read, the Turn from Ireland was playing here in the U.S. at the SXSW festival in Texas. ...Interesting. I just found that the Turn in Ireland has their own web site and on it they say they formed in 1998. I'm glad to hear that my Turn was playing clubs here in Monterey two years before they even formed--yea. http://www.turn.ie

Come see Turn and Noise Addict at the Lava Lounge on Sat., June 5! Free 21 and over show!

Stay tuned for information about Turn playing at a festival in Soledad July 11...

Special News: Raymond's good friend Andre Tonelli has been busy enough to announce a release date for his new E.P. Pick it up as soon as you can!

Ralph Shoukry CD! Raymond made a CD featuring Ralph's three songs "A," B," and "C" that Ralph wrote with a drummer named Doug in San Louis Obispo in 1995. Ralph and Doug had recorded the drums, rhthym guitars, and bass. Ralph had started recording leads but they got lost when the tracks were ported from the four-track to the PC. Raymond made up some lyrics and sang on "A." Lyndon mixed the songs and likes to refer to them as "Ashes of This World," "B-2 Bomber," and "Camoflagic." We haven't shown Ralph anything we've done . . . until now. Raymond put two copies in the mail to him and hopes he likes it. Raymond took some artwork off http://www.derekriggs.comwithout permission and hopes nobody minds.
Show! Turn played with Breathe, W2H, A Day's End, Answer to the ? and other local bands at the YMCA Youth Leadership Fundraiser, 560 Walker Dr., Soledad. The show went from 7:30 to midnight on Saturday, April 19, 2003. Admission was $5.00.--Wow, what a great show that was! The crowd was great! Don't just take my word for it, ask anyone that was there. Thanks to Joe and Leah for getting us the show!
Raymond would like to thank Carvin Jones for letting him play "Mustang Sally" with his band on Monday, January 20 at Char's.

Raymond took forty seconds out of one of the jams with Dan from September and placed it here: 11th Minute. Practices with Vince playing bass, Scott Frus playing guitar and singing, and Raymond playing drums have been..."going." Raymond will be taking pictures of his guitars and listing them in the Gallery at the Ibanez Register web site!
Raymond also put up a small version of the "Steve Vai Jibboom (Raymond Lugo Lead)" .mp3 file so it would fit on the web site.
Raymond has been jamming with drummer Dan Finch, III, talking about playing drums with Vince Marotta on guitar and vocals with another bass player. Raymond sang on "A" which is a song by Ralph Shoukry. Raymond will be adding guitar leads to Ralph's songs, "A," "B," and "C" soon!
On Monday, September 16, 2002, Raymond played at Chars in Phoenix, Arizona with Carvin Jones' drummer and bassist for open mic night. Raymond played about four songs with them. Three of the songs were also with Big Nasty an excellent singer who belted out the blues with passion. Thanks to Carvin Jones (what an excellent player) for letting Raymond play Carvin's Fender Stratocaster and rig. The first song was a blues song that Big Nasty knew. The second was an upbeat twelve-bar progression in D minor where Raymond got to play a lot of lead. The third song Big Nasty sang another blues number in E minor. The last song we did was "Johnny B. Goode" which was of course rocked out with an extended lead at the ended. Thanks to the Canadian who told Raymond that "he was really good." There were so many excellent players playing that night that made it a very exciting night.
The new CD Eye Disease is finished! E-mail me for a copy.

Lyndon mixing the four new songs--this time with vocals on three of them. Yea!

Turn on TV! Turn was featured playing on KMBY and at the Monterey Rock & Art Festival on Monterey's public access channel 24. The show aired August 16, 2001 at 8:00 P.M.
Maybe Lyndon can tell me when he took that trip to Texas which allowed Trevor, Dan, Roy and myself to jam out "Money" and "March of the Psycho Kings," come up with the name Turn (us here in CA, USA), and play Whitey's Place. But I know it was before July 18, 1996 because I have video of that night. Since then other bands around the world have been named Turn. Those bands are Turn (Dublin, Ireland [2000?]), Turn (around Stuttgart, South Germany, in march 2000) [now Turn-Up, Turn (formed in the winter of 1999-2000 and now in Columbus, Ohio). Chad from the Turn in Ohio says there's another Turn from Italy (but I can't find any information regarding such a band). Axel from the Turn in Germany says there's another Turn in Austria (but I can't find any information about that Turn either).
E-mail me your name and address to get on my mailing list.
On January 7, 2001 I recorded a lead over the Steve Vai leadless version of Jibboom. I had never heard the song before. I listened to this leadless version the night I downloaded it and then about one and a half times before recording on my PC--just enough to figure out what key I think it's in and then show Roy what I was about to record over. It was a Turn practice night and we were waiting for Lyndon. I listened to Steve's version with the lead today (January 15) and I'm glad I didn't hear what he was doing before I recorded. It would have made me think too much about what I should or shouldn't be playing instead of doing my best at what I know how to do. My Steve Vai Jibboom (Raymond Lugo Lead) version is available in my Napster\Music directory. To find the track, search in WinMX. The file name is Steve Vai Jibboom (Raymond Lugo Lead).mp3. I hope you like it. Wish me luck! [Today is March 2, 2001. I just checked out tonos.com and I didn't make it to the finals--doh!]

If you care about what I was playing on, it was my Ibanez JS100 (yes the red Joe Satriani model), but I've got an EMG 81 in the bridge and an EMG 85 in the neck positions. I used either my MAIDEN--JANICK GERS/ERNIE BALL pick or Anthrax's YOUR FATHER WORKING?/HOW'S YOUR MOTHER? pick. I plugged into a 30-watt Peavy Backstage 50 amp. I recorded on a Gateway PC mic in my HP Pavilion using the Tonocorder 8 Track software. It was my first take without warming up. I tried another couple of takes, but the fire and freshness was in the first take, so that's what's there.

Let me know if you know anyone that wants to get on or off my mailing list. I'd like to thank everyone who's been helping us out. You rock!

I'd also like to let the following players know that I would honored if any of them would come over and jam at my studio for fun:
