The Mexican people have traditionally imbued death with an exuberance that is associated with the fullness of life. Annually, on November 1st and 2nd, the people of Mexican descent, on both sides of the border, infuse death with life - giving symbolism in their celebrations of the feast of Dias de los Muertos.
In this year's exhibition, pre-Hispanic death imagery and a private collection of Dias de los Muertos artifacts, including ritual objects, toys , folk art and photographs, will illustrate this traditional view of death. Artists, students and other community members will interpret this tradition with the creation of altars and artistic works.
