CALLING THE GATHERING OF THE CLAN
THE FARRAR FAMILY REUNION 1996
A week-long, camp-out, get-together commencing on FATHER’S DAY each year. Regularly held on BOB FARRAR’S 200 wooded acres near WIRTH, AR. ALL FARRAR’S, FARRAR descendants, FAMIIES, and FRIENDS welcome.
LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT:
It’s that time of year again! That means it will soon be time for the 19th Annual Farrar Family Reunion.
We now have black-line, non-fadeable copies of our Farrar Family Tree available for $15 each. Make check payable to the Farrar Family Reunion and mail with request to Joseph V. Farrar, Jr. P.O. Box 391, Perris, CA 92572-0391.
The Reunion starts Sunday, “Fathers Day”, June 16th and runs all week. If you want to come in Saturday, the 15th, the camp will be open. Several of us do arrive on Saturday. If you do, plan on using Friday’s menu for Saturday the 15th. If you want to arrive before the 15th, please make arrange-ments with Bob, so you can get in. His phone number is 501-625-3828.
The reunion supplies coffee, tea, sugar, aluminum foil, paper plates, napkins, paper towels, dishes, silverware, pots and pans (if you plan to bake something, bring your baking pan), salt & pepper, garbage bags, dish soap, toilet paper and ice. We cook a big breakfast and evening meal together (see menu enclosed). Everyone is on their own for lunch. Any leftovers from previous meals can be eaten for lunch or bring what you want for your family. Feel free to bring anything additional that you want to fix for the evening meals that isn’t on the menu.
Bring your own sleeping arrangements, tent, camper, motor home, etc. Please bring lawn chairs. We have flush toilets and a shower house. Or, if you prefer, there are Motels close by, see list on back of map.
We have a lake for fishing and swimming. Bring your own fishing gear and water toys. Children need life jackets or swim rings if they aren’t good swimmers, and MUST have adult supervision when at the lake. We have a nice playground for the kids with climbing towers, swings, monkey bars, a swinging bridge, etc. Also, a first class volley ball court, so bring your competitive spirit.
We do a canoe trip down the Spring River on one day. A two man canoe rental is available for approximately $20 per canoe.
Work day projects will include building the 4th tower for the playground, clearing more area for tents and parking, and possibly installing a sink on the outside of the shower house. Bring tools accordingly, such as chain saws, rakes, hammers, etc.
Make your plans now. Don’t miss the Nineteenth Annual Farrar Family Reunion.
See you there, Barb
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
WE’RE COMPUTERIZED: Randy Farrar has obtained computer software to compile genealogical information and is in the process of putting all our Family information on the computer. With this software he can record all standard genealogical data including additional written information of any kind and amount. This information can then be easily extracted per an individual, family, or the whole family tree.
Randy requests that you advise him of any additions or corrections of information contained on the current family tree. The family tree will be updated and a new version will be available at the 20th reunion. Therefore it is important that any changes/ additions be made available to him in sufficient time. Send to Randy Farrar: P.O. Box 17304, San Diego, CA 92177 or FAX: (619) 549-6897
20TH REUNION: For our 20th Family Reunion, next year (1997), special activities are being planned. A professional photographer will be available for individual, Family, and a group picture.
FLAG LOWERING CEREMONY:
Immediately after breakfast Father’s Day, two volunteers will lower the Flag to half-mast during a moment of silence. We do this on this day in memory of all Father’s now deceased.
BUSINESS MEETING:
Right after the lowering of the Flag our President, Barbara Williams, will call the meeting to order. All present are invited to participate.
FARRAR CEMETERY: Near Cave Springs, Benton County, AR is an old, almost lost cemetery, once on Farrar land now owned by others. Mostly marked with field stones; this is where John (Jack) Howard Farrar, Great Grandfather to we of the Original Ten, is buried (unmarked). Also, one of his Sons, Albert Galatin, killed in action during the Civil War, is buried there with an engraved monument. Untended for years, now with numerous others in our extended Clan seeking their roots, our Cousin Geneva (Creek) Farrar, living nearby, has volunteered her blood, sweat, and tears, in the maintenance and up-keep of this site. She has a helper, Lance (no kin), but willing to expend his time, effort, and equipment to assist in our cause. Geneva and I have compensated Lance, in a small way, for this year. We cordially request those who can, and are willing, to give an extra donation to our Farrar Family Reunion Fund to help pay for some of Lance’s time, gasoline, and wear and tear on his equipment. Your help is truly appreciated.
ALVAHN HOLMES’ BOOKS: “The Farrar’s Island Family and its English Ancestry” ($35), and “Some Farrar’s Island Descendants” ($40), are both still available from her Nephew. Both books ordered together are $70. Contact: James S. Farrior, 1232 Harrison Point Trail, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034. Phone: (904) 277-9623.
NEW FOUND COUSINS: Jack and Shirley Farrar, of Alexandria, VA; Bill and Nancy Farrar, of Menlo Park, CA; and Doug and Carleton (McNaron) Wright, of Columbia, TN; have all purchased our Tree and all have stated they plan to be a part of our Reunion this year. FANTASTIC!
Geneva, with her Cemetery maintenance Crew, Goldie and Lance, will also attend and participate the first weekend. Lance has to be back to his regular job Monday, 17 June. This give you the opportunity to meet these dedicated people who tenderly tend our Cemetery; and for them to meet for whom they toil.
THE CLAN GATHERS: It’s time to reunite and renew; to meet and to greet; to catch up on happenings and events; to strengthen the ties. We eagerly anticipate this joyous time; this bonding of Family Love. See you there!!
J.V. Farrar
