Initiative helps identify companies fully integrated to the Ariba Commerce Services Network
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., November 20, 2000 - Ariba, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARBA), the leading business-to-business (B2B) eCommerce platform provider, today announced the creation of Ariba® Ready™, a new Ariba program for helping to ensure smooth business integration and seamless interoperability between buyers, market makers, and suppliers accessing the Ariba Commerce Services Network™ (Ariba CSN).
To date, over 30,000 selling organizations are accessible on the Ariba CSN. The Ariba Ready program indicates the level of
technical integration of suppliers connected to the Ariba CSN, enabling buyers and market makers to quickly identify and select
appropriate organizations with whom to trade. Ariba Ready uses a well-defined process and consistent measurement
standards to validate the level of integration. Ariba developed these processes and measurements in conjunction with Arthur
Andersen, Ariba's third party provider of testing and validation services.
The initial group of companies already participating in the Ariba Ready program includes TechniCon:
"In the few months since TechniCon's B2B Custom Commerce software suite has been made Ariba Ready, our Company has
experienced a tremendous upsurge in business from dozens of manufacturers of highly-configurable, complex products - our
exact target market. The Ariba solution's unique cXML 'punch-out' feature enables seamless integration between the buying
process powered by the Ariba B2B Commerce Platform and TechniCon's web based selection, configuration and visualization
process, providing a complete end-to-end solution." Dr. Russell F. Henke, Chief Operating Officer

"Election as an SME Fellow is very prestigious", according to Mr. Sabroff. "In the entire history of the SME, only 225 Fellows have been elected from the worldwide SME membership."
Throughout his career, Henke has been a relentless advocate for focusing on improving both US productivity and US wealth generation by constantly enhancing the country's manufacturing infrastructure. "Our manufacturing strength is the key to our ongoing economic success, prosperity and security", says Henke. "Breakthroughs in CAD/CAM/CIM and high technology create no wealth on their own, except to the extent they allow enterprises that make real things to design and manufacture them faster, better and less expensively".

The second event today, is the commemoration of of the fourth anniversary of
the founding of the consulting practice.

will not only focus on strategic partnerships associated with our CMM INSPECTION software products, but also he will help drive our thrusts with Production PILOT and DAC in the process planning and CAD design side of SILMA".

The primary purpose of this summit meeting is to give direction to the engineering software industry for the coming decade. Invited attendee contributions will help shape the outcome of this event. Attendance is restricted to a select group of leaders and visionaries who can be expected to make a significant contribution to the direction of the industry—and who are also are in a position to help implement change. Participants in the Summit include influential representatives from major engineering corporations, leading industry analysts, major value-added resellers, software and hardware vendors, and distinguished members of the academic and financial communities.

"It looks like I have signed on to spending a total of 40 to 45 hours a week for some time period to come, so the average of 115 hours per month of chargable consulting over the last 37 months, will now begin to inch up toward a higher number. As a result of this new assignment, I will be unable to take on any more actual consulting engagements for a period of time, but of course I will be able to meet with possible future clients to discuss projects that could start later in the year".
"I am particularly excited by the opportunity to work with this company", said Henke. "The engagement will demand the exercise of vitually every part of my background in mechanical engineering, software development, graphics, CAD/CAM/CAE, and high tech business planning, marketing and management".

"There have been similarities and differences in the last year, compared to the first two years", said Henke. "As before, the longer engagements yielded the most benefits to all concerned. And putting in about three weeks out of every month among two to three clients, seems to be the optimum for best results. But during the last twelve months, I have been delighted with the increasing number of consulting associates who have joined me on several projects, and the added teamwork has led to handsome dividends for the clients involved. The mix of clients this past year has also included more collaboration with start-up companies, more assistance in identifying and recruiting key executives for clients, and more liaisons with angel, venture and corporate investors."
"Fortunately, my workload is as heavy as ever", said Henke, "But I always felt during my corporate days that it was important to pause on certain occasions to reflect at least briefly on past accomplishments and the contributions by others. This Third Anniversary is one of those. These past three years are what consulting is all about: constant change and challenge; building lasting relationships; and creating observable positive results for clients that endure long after the engagements are concluded. I look forward to this upcoming fourth year with great anticipation. Again, many thanks to my past and present clients, my valued consulting associates, and to those great folks who have both referred clients and endorsed my consulting practice!"
