Hangartener Cottage
Berkeley, CA

This project was designed for a single mother in Berkeley, returning to graduate school to finish her doctorate work, wishing to rent her older home to support her studies. She built this small cottage (less than 450 s.f.) for herself and teenage son. Each of the three rooms doubles in function to accommodate very tight living quarters. An "outdoor room" was also created to extend the living area space.

Architectural details from the main house were used on the exterior of the cottage to create a unified compound of houses and their shared garden.
