Bob's Yellow Bird

My T-Bird Emblem

Page Two: Santa Cruz and Highway 1

Cruisers in Santa Cruz We left home at about 11:00AM and got on the freeway system (ugh) until we got to the town of Los Gatos. There we got off the freeway and drove to Saratoga where we put the top down and took Highway 9 over the Santa Cruz Mountains to the city of Santa Cruz.

We found a really neat diner in Santa Cruz called Cruiser's where the theme is classic cars of the fifties. The burgers were all named after cars. I would have had a Ford Thunderbird but it was made with turkey and my burgers have got to be the real thing, beef.

Gazing out to sea After that we got on Highway 1 and headed north, stopping at a coastal access point to stretch and take some pictures.

View of the sea It's a pretty steep drop down to the beach but there is a paved footpath.

That big rock almost looks a whale.

Gazing out to sea I could stare out at the ocean for hours. A house with the bedroom window overlooking the ocean would be great. I wouldn't want to get up in the morning.

View of the sea The sun reflecting off the water made quite a sight. I bet sunset would have been beautiful.

Terry in the driver's seat The co-pilot is at the helm and ready to go.

The T-Bird at the coast One more shot before we get back on the Pacific Coast Highway.

Can't take a drive in the T-Bird without getting a picture of the car in.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse We continued north on Highway 1 to Route 84 and took that back over the mountains and all the way home to Livermore.

This is a shot of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse taken on the fly. They have a hostel there, too.

The whole trip took us around 8 hours and we enjoyed every minute of it.
