Bob's Yellow Bird

My T-Bird Emblem

Page Five: Sausalito

Crossing The Golden Gate On this trip we crossed The Bay Bridge into San Francisco, wended our way through the city and crossed The Golden Gate Bridge into Marin County, spent a couple of hours in Sausalito, then crossed the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge on our way back home.

Here we are crossing a fog-shrouded Golden Gate Bridge on what looked like an iffy day, weather-wise, but turned out to be gorgeous.

The Lone Sailor This is a monument called The Lone Sailor. It and the plaques commemorate all those who have gone to sea for their livelihood or in defense of their country.

It is located at the Golden Gate Vista Point at the north end of The Golden Gate Bridge.
Navy Plaque Merchant Marine Plaque
Coast Guard Plaque Marine Corps Plaque

Golden Gate Bridge from Fort Baker A classic view of The Golden Gate Bridge as seen from a pier at Fort Baker.

We are directly below the Golden Gate Vista Point and could see this pier from there.

The fog forms an ever-changing view of the bridge.

Fort Baker This is Fort Baker which was founded more than 100 years ago as an Army post. It is now part of The Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is controlled by The National Park Service.

The Birds of Sausalito This is my version of the classic Alfred Hitchcock movie, "The Birds". In this version Tippi Hedren drives a blue Thunderbird and I drive a yellow one. And we terrorize Sausalito instead of Bodega Bay.

What a coincidence to find an empty parking space next to another T-Bird. I left my card in the cup holder but have not heard from the owner as yet.

Sausalito Yacht Club The Sausalito Yacht Club. In this picture you can see only a fraction of the boats moored here. No cheapies, either.

I wonder why so many of them are sitting idle on such a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Downtown Sausalito This is the view down Bridgeway in Historic Downtown Sausalito.

You are looking at the tourist center of the town with the gift shops, boutiques, etc. that seem to be an attraction to them. We did not do much browsing, only enough to pick up a small souvenir for our daughter. The walk up and down the street was very nice, though. And it wasn't very crowded, either.

Fountain in Sausalito This fountain is the centerpoint of a small but beautiful park on Bridgeway in Sausalito. It is very well-kept and all the plants and flowers seem to love the coastal environment.

Park in Sausalito This is the same park but looking to the left of the previous picture.

There were two of these elephant lamp posts guarding the entrance to the park. What a pleasant place to while away the hours.

San Francisco from Sausalito This is right along the sidewalk on the other end of downtown. In fact, we stepped off the sidewalk and sat on these rocks for awhile.

The view across the bay of San Francisco was absolutely awesome.

San Francisco from Sausalito Here is the rest of the view across the bay. These two pictures would be great pieced together in one wide-angle panorama.

I have seen some beautiful vistas in my time, but this and The Grand Canyon have to rank right up there as possibly the best ever.

Alcatraz from Sausalito This is a zoomed in shot of Alcatraz with The Bay Bridge in the background.

I'm pleased with how good it came out, considering I was using digital zoom.

At The Seven Seas Restaurant My wife and I are enjoying a cup of coffee while waiting for a late lunch at The Seven Seas Restaurant.

This place was really neat because the roof is a huge skylight which can be retracted for an open-air, outdoor dining experience.

We had a nice conversation with the owner who has "been here 44 years" and travels to the warmer climes every winter, mostly south of the equator.

At The Seven Seas Restaurant Well, I guess it'll be time to head back home after we eat.

Here's looking at you, kid.
