| This was a solo ride to the small town of Sunol
not very far from home. I went there just to get out for a while and have some
brunch.
This is looking down Main Street towards the old railroad depot. The Niles Canyon Railway runs scenic train rides through the canyon on certain Sundays. Someday I want to do that. |
| Here is the view of Main Street looking east.
Sunol gained international recognition a few years back due to the fact that their mayor was a dog named Bosco. He was a great old dog who just hung around town and made his daily rounds picking up something to eat and taking naps. Everybody in town loved him and took care of him. He has since passed away but there is an establishment named after him called Bosco's Bones and Brew. |
| This is Sunol's Whistle Stop Antiques. It is
an old house with rooms and rooms of stuff you can spend a couple of hours
looking at.
Whenever I go into one of these places I find myself looking for things I remember from my childhood. I usually find something, too, although I have never actually bought anything. |
| This is The Sunol Coffee House and Cafe where I
had my favorite breakfast of chicken fried steak and eggs with tons of country
gravy.
Whenever I'm sitting in there I get the feeling Matt Dillon and Chester are going to walk in at any moment. |
| The railroad tracks through Sunol were part of the original transcontinental railroad. In fact, the town of Sunol came into being after the Central Pacific Railroad built a freight terminal at that location. |
| This is the Sunol Water Temple which is part of the San Francisco water supply system. It has recently been restored and although there is not much to see it is still pretty interesting and a nice spot to visit. |
| The inscription around the top of the dome reads "I will make the wilderness a pool of water and the dry lands springs of water. The streams whereof shall make glad the city. S.V.W.C. MCMX" |
| The under side of the dome looks like a mini Michelangelo masterpiece. |
| Water enters the temple from the east and it then goes into a pipeline which carries it to San Francisco. |
| Looking out between the columns at some trees which are starting to show their fall colors. |
| And, of course, a shot of the Thunderbird with the
water temple in the background.
A restored classic structure being visited by a re-born classic automobile. |
