FAREWELL TO NANE -- RUBY'S MOM, Hilda Mathilda Anderson Rudman, WHO PASSED AWAY IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2006 -- Ruby had to go to Chicago to attend her mom's funeral. Ruby's daughter Cynthia Lynn Berry sang a beautiful tribute to Nane at the funeral service at St. Teresa's in Lamont, IL. Several other folks passed during the same week including Hulda McLean, Roger Anderson's daughter (Aretha Anderson McLean) great great grandmother who was Herbert Hoover's niece -- she was a grand matriarch as well as a grand lady of Santa Cruz, California. You can check out her history in the Santa Cruz Sentinel. Also farewell to the young son John (38) of our good friend and fellow musician Nancy Fox who passed during the same week. They say things like this happen in threes and this year was no exception.
CHICAGO LOVES RUBY RUDMAN
Ruby also played in Chicago on October 21, 2006 at her daughter Cynthia Berry's Women in Power 2006 Seminar at the Holiday Inn Hillside Illinois. Cynthia's inspirational speech was recorded and will be available on CD in the near future. While in Chicago Ruby showed up at one of her favorite haunts THE KINGSTON MINES, a now-famous blues venue on Halsted Street in Chicago. Invited up to the stage she belted out the blues with female guitar great Joanna reprising SWEET HOME CHICAGO and STORMY MONDAY. Thanks to Doc Pellegrino owner of the Kingston Mines who remembers when Ruby was one of the first performers to play his venue back in the 1970s when the club was located on Lincoln -- whoops -- I'm giving away Ruby's age now ... It just means she's got a lot of "'sperience" doncha know ... She was also seen in Woodstock, Illinois at the Stage Left Cafe thanks to friend and fellow cohort in music, LAUREL PALMA, who invited Ruby up to sing some original tunes.

NOVEMBER 17, 2006!!! -- Ruby plays with Maxx & the Maniacs at Bocci's and later ihn the month at Henflings Tavern in Felton, CA. Special guest guitar player. Tom Langan on bass. Will Wendy grace us with her presence if she's not busy??? ...

OUR BARBIES GIG WAS RECORDED AT BOCCI'S CELLAR ON 1/21/05. If you were at this gig, you KNOW we had some kind of fun. After listening to the recording, we realize that we'll probably need another recording so we can possibly have a double live album. Stay tuned for more information.
Barbies played the first and third friday
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2005 9:00 - 11:45 BOARDWALK BOWL -- Our first time here and even though it was the night before Christmas Eve there were lots of folks out and about, some of them playing pool, some roaming the streets and others in this fab venue dancin' to the Barbies. We hope to be back here in the new year.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2005 8:00-12:00 HENFLING'S BEN LOMOND
This gig was great. We had a great time partying up in the Ben Lomond area. It's always great to play at Henfling's and Cesar treats us good. We had a guy sit in on harmonica, Vic was a little late so we played the first set with Ruby keeping the bottom happening. Look for us in 2006 at this great venue.
December 30, 2005, NEW YEAR'S EVE EVE @ Don Quixote's with the Las Vegas Horns: We rehearsed and rehearsed for this gig. It was a great success considering they closed down several roads including Highway 9 -- three trees fell across Hwy 9, luckily just past the cabin we rented. We were so lucky to have the Las Vegas Horns with us -- "Rockin'" Robin Anderson on trumpet, David "Heavy D" Gonzalez on saxophone, and guest trumpeteer Michael McPheeters on 2nd trumpet. They really punched up the Barbies In Jail sound. A hardy crowd showed up and supported our habit, including Linda Westpahl, Robin and Roger's sister from Oregon, Brita, Betty, the "big D" Darryl, Mary Williams, Albert, Keith and friend, Waylon and Sondra, Jerry "the Wolf Man" from Lompico, Tanya was lookin' fine, and many other fans of the Barbies. Everyone loved the horn section and we're hoping to do more gigs with these wonderful musicians in the future. We played our first ever original Barbies song written by Wendy R -- called "Quoting Him" but everyone knows it as the ska tune called "He's Really Something Special." A special thank you to Scott Free from KSCO and Carrie McPheeters for helping with the load out. Ruby & Robin had a cabin at the Fern River Resort (the hot tub was killer the next morning!) A great time was had by all.
November and December 2005 were excellent with some new gigs. We played at the Boardwalk Bowl on December 23, 2005. Wendy RRR wore her new Satan Claus outfit replete with Santa Hat with red sequined horns, and a red satin tail attached to her red striped pajama bottoms -- Bro "the Hit Man" was regaled all in red sequin jacket -- Nat Shuirman was filling in for Vic the trick on the bass. Bob (aka Robert Holmes "The Reverend" Hathaway was ripping some great solos -- Wendy and Ruby were singin' their asses off as usual! Look for us summer 2006 at the Boardwalk Bowl.

It was out in redwoods as promised, on a couple of flat bed trucks, outdoors, with the wind blowin' and the goblins and ghouls prowling around with flashlights in the dark. We shook up the place with rock and funk and reggae and everyone was dressed in all sorts of great costumes, including our hostess Tracy who was dressed in a killer blue shiny dress wearing high heels no less.

SATURDAY, JULY 9, 2005 BARBIES PLAY THE LUPIN NATURALIST CLUB
The Lupin Naturalist Club (formerly The Lupin Lodge) is located just above Lexington Reservoir, off Idylwild Drive off Highway 17. This is a clothing-optional resort and the band was looking forward to hanging loose at this gig. Most of the audience were wearing very little clothes as it was a warm day. The band arriving early (4pm) and went swimming and hot tubbing. Ruby and Bill Poole played Scrabble with two guys visiting from San Rafael. Brian Chester, Michael and Carrie McPheeters and Tanya were our guests. Brian and Michael sat in on a couple of tunes. Wendy R played topless on the last set to the delight of all. I think we'll be back in the near future and there was some talk about doing New Year's Eve. This was a fabulous gig.
AUG 20-21, 2004 BARBIES' BIG SUR CAMPING TRIP AND PHOTO SHOOT
We went camping @ Fernwood campground, our favorite hideout spot in Big Sur!!! Several folks dropped by to see us "au naturale" in the forest by the sea. Ruby and the Hitman, along with Robin Anderson terrorized the Fernwood Bar by sitting in with the Blues Band on Saturday evening. Wendy RRRR and Bill Pool were down at the camp securing the perimeter, with Wendy playing and singing to the delight of nearby campers. Sites 43 and 44. Bill Pool made an enormous pot of spaghetti for himself (at least 12 lbs, I think ...), while Wendy had Ahi Tuna. Hitman and Ruby had steaks cooked by Robin (hitman's big bro and Rhubarbie's main squeeze). Ruby made pancakes, bacon and eggs and a killer soup too. Fun Fun Fun!!! Can't wait until next year.
FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL Rhubarbie (Ruby Rudman) @ 831-724-4433 or the Pirate Barbie ... Wendy RRRRR on the Barbies hotline @ 831-429-4346.
