Florida Jets 99

Florida Jets 99 was held at Flager County airport on Feb. 25th thru Feb 28th. The weather was picture perfect with 70 degrees temperatures and plenty of sunshine (no rain). The wind even co-operated and was mostly down the runway. A huge success.

- Day 1 -

Arriving to the event site on Thursday morning, I was greeted by cool but tolerable temperatures. It quickly warmed up by 9:00 AM. Everyone was busy setting up their equipment, and I was no exception. My F-106 Delta Dart was packaged into a couple of boxes, and it required a good part of an hours work un-package, sort out, and assemble the components.

Dean Wichmann is seen here with his beautifully painted Kangaroo. Dean also shipped his plane using the box pictured.

Here my F-106 Delta dart sit ready for its first sortie of the event. Ready to rock n roll.

Matt Carroll was the first casualty of the event when his BVM Bandit powered by a GWM Hammer plowed into the ground. It's hard to believe all the little pieces was once a plane.

The Hammer got "hammered"

- Day 2 -

Another beautiful day in the Florida sunshine. The pace of activity has picked up, and many more planes are up in the sky, including a special treat; a flyby from a full scale L-39 Albatross flown by Bruce Holecek of Tower Hobbies. The L-39 made a low attitude pass as seen in the below photos. The Jet pilots just loved it.

Close up view of the GoldenWest Hammer turbine in the JetCat.

This turbine engine package sports an on-board propane tank and electric starter. The plane could be started from the transmitter without any auxiliary equipment connected.

It will only cause planes to go down the runway straight and deprive us of spectacular pictures such as these!!!

http://209.233.30.62/florida_16.JPG (97434 bytes)Gyros certainly provide a add margin of saftey to prevent incidents like this one where a wayward plane came plowing into the pits. The technology is here, lets use it to our advantage.
