The Adult Forum

The Adult Forum is designed to explore topics and issues of special relevance and interest to church people.  The format usually consists of a 25-minute presentation followed by 20 minutes of dialogue and discussion.

The Adult Forum meets on Sunday from 10:30 to 11:30 am in the lounge.  Watch the church bulletin for specific topics.

The Book Discussion Group

Do you enjoy discussing books you have read? Join the Book Discussion Group and share stimulating discussions. We read at least one book a month, and we discuss it the second Monday of the month. Books to be read are listed in the church bulletin and newsletter

We read a wide variety of books including history, biography, autobiography, an occasional classic and even bestsellers. Books are chosen because they are well written, descriptive, imaginative, perhaps exciting, intellectually stimulating and thought provoking. Watch the bulletin or newsletter to learn what book is being read this month. The Book Club meets the second Monday of the month at 4:30 pm in Room 2, SDUMC. We welcome new members.

Community Resource Center Project

Sponsored by Sunday School

In continuing to follow the Sunday School curriculum, we developed a community service aspect. We work with Community Resource Center in Encinitas, a community outreach center helping people in need with food, shelter and counseling.  The Sunday School classes from Kindergarten to 6th grade go on field trips to CRC to help in the Bread Room, Food Pantry and with clerical support.  During the Christmas season we help with their Holiday Basket Program, which provides food, clothes and toys to needy families and bags of needed items for homeless individuals and seniors.  Our Sunday School collects items for these projects and works to sort food and assemble the bags for delivery. The Church & Society Commission helps to collect needed items for the Community Resource Center, which our children then deliver when they go on their field trips. The Third Sunday of each month the Sunday School celebrates "Peanut Butter Sunday" when we collect food for the Community Resource Center. The collection box will be outside the Sanctuary. Thank you for your support of this project

SDUMC Orphanage Ministry

Through our church's Orphanage Ministry our congregation improves the quality of life of children in orphanages in Tijuana, Mexico.

On our church's monthly trips, we visit our La Roca Orphanage children to play with them, provide a birthday party and group activities, help with clothes washing, food
preparation and work on projects such as painting, maintenance and building construction. All huggers are welcome. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

Trips to the Orphanage are made on the 1st Saturday of every month. We meet in the church parking lot at 8:30 a.m. To confirm, call (760) 944-7695.
