U9, U10, U11, and U12 Assistant Referees 2006 |
At the Viking League annual meeting in March 2003, the teams voted overwhelmingly to approve a requirement that each U9, U10,U11, U12, U13, and U14 teams must have at least one volunteer adult trained Assistant Referee. This was again approved (overwhelmingly) at the February 2005 Annual Meeting and at the February 2006 Annual Meeting. We have been working with the Referee Trainer to coordinate a training course for our volunteers. The class will focus on Eight Things a Viking Assistant Referee Needs to Know. Each team must find one parent to volunteer to be trained to be an Assistant Referee for the games (if the trained parent can not attend the games, then your team will not have a linesman representing them). The parent acting as Assistant Referee will still be able to watch the game and will get the added advantages of being able to help out to make the experience better for the kids, getting a little exercise and getting a front row view. When:
The JCC has offered to let us use their gym so please follow their rules, which include: • Non-marking
soled shoes must be worn in the gymnasium. What to bring: Non-marking soled shoes you can run in (or at least move somewhat quickly in). Register Your Volunteer: Click here to Register Your Volunteer Assistant Referee. In order to anticipate who is coming, keep track of teams to make sure that they comply, and have information so that we can communicate with our Assistant Referee's in case we need to clarify anything, we need you to register your volunteer. Who Can Volunteer: The volunteer must be an adult (over the age of 21) and not the coach or assistant coach of the team. If a team has a volunteer who is a currently licensed referee and who expects to attend most games, this person can serve in this role but should still attend the course as we will be covering issues dealing with our specific rules. A team may have more than one parent attend the course if they want. Returning Assistant Referees: Assistant Referees who took the course in 2003, 2004 or 2005 do not have to attend but will be have to take the ONLINE REFRESHER QUlZ and register online. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR FLAG AND ASSITANT REFEREE T-SHIRT from last year. If you need a new flag and t-shirt the cost is $20. The goal of this program is to both help our referees (who are already trying to watch too many things at once), educate some of our fans about soccer rules, and maybe inspire some other adults to become referees. If you have any questions, please email us.
