San Francisco Vikings Youth Soccer League
Policy on Players Playing Up
Under CYSA rules a player may elect to play in an older age division. Generally this has not been an issue since it is generally limited to one age group and we offer play in every age group. However, in the U13/14 age groups we combine teams. This means that a U12 player that chooses to play on a U13 or U14 team may play players that are up to three years older than the player. Given the growth spurts by children at this age level, the size difference can be dramatic.
We have discovered the often players and their parents do not understand the fact that the player will be playing so much older players. Usually parents fill out the forms without filling out the top portion and even when the top portion is filled out the parents do not understand the implication. As a result the League ends up hearing significant complaints from these parents and often their children end up quitting soccer because they develop fear. In addition, the league offers a mechanism for players to find alternative teams in the appropriate age group that parents should feel free to utilize.
The league has decided not to prohibit U12 players from playing on U13/14 teams but want to ensure that parents make a knowing decision. As a result, the parents of any player who is in the U12 and under age group who desires to play on a U13/U14 team will be required to sign an acknowledgement that they have read and understood this policy. Print this page and have them sign below.
The parent/guardian of _______________________________ have read the above policy and understand that their child is eligible to play in the U12 age group and that they are registering their child on a team that will play in the U13/14 age group. As as result their child will play against players who may be 2 or more years older and significantly larger. The league offers a mechanism for all players to find teams and as a result if your child is interested in playing on a different team, go to www.sfvikings.com and click on How To Find a Team for My Child to learn about how an alternative team can be found.
