FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Note: The answers given here are MY opinion. Take with a grain of salt.

Q: What you do you feed your kittys? I feed a blend of 4 dry foods--Eagle Pack Adult, Royal Canon Special 33, Max Cat Gourmet Chicken, and Nutra Nugget. They never seem to tire of this mix and they are less sensitive to changes in diet.

Q: How much big do they get? Males can get to over 18 lbs but typically range from 13 to17 lbs. Females range from 8 to 13.

Q: Do they get along with other cats? Very well. We have Persians and NFCs and a ragdoll and they all get along well.

Q: Do they get along with dogs? Yes, see the photos at the "Monterey Norwegian Forest Cat" link.

Q: What colors do they come in? NFC come in all natural cat colors--see the CFA breed standard (link below)

Q: What is their temperament? A lot has been written on this. It varies from cat to cat and is both genetic and environmentally determined. I learned very early to breed for temperament and to socialize the kittens.

Q: Do they have any chronic conditions? Glycogen Storage Disease IV is rarely found in NFCs. My sires and dams or their parents have been screened for it.

Q: How should I introduce them to my home and other pets? They should have their own room and litter box for one to two weeks, and be introduced to your other cats gradually. They need to feel at home.

Q: Do you have any kittens? See "Current NFC kittens" link on my home page.

Q: Do you have any older cats available? Occasionally, I'll try to post availability on my web site.

Q: What do I do about diahrea? Kittens(and other mammals) often get diahrea from stress or, from parasites such as coccidia and giardia. If untreated, it can sometimes be fatal. I treat for coccidia using sulfadimethoxine (Albon). I've had good experience by providing it the cats in their drinking water with a little taste enhancement. See links below for giardia.

Q: Vaccinations? We use Merial 3-in-1 vaccine. I place kittens with their vaccinations. After they are a year old they will need a booster. I don't do rabies unless necessary for shipping.

Q: Declawing? I require that my cats never be declawed. See the link below about declawing.
