The Drake House

1870's - 1999 Mussey Grade Road,
Ramona, California

This house appears on a map by B.B. Moore from the 1870's, but the Drake family did not move into the house until 1904. The house was lived in by Mrs. Charlotte Drake Peterson and her brother Rufus Drake. It was first used as a place to obtain provisions and an unofficial mail station since there was no store or post office available in the area until 1883. The Drake House has a stone building a few feet from the kitchen door which was used to store and cool milk.
