North Park Today
Description
Restoration Opportunity
The City of San Diego is seeking an interested investor to restore this arts, cultural and entertainment center.
North Park Theatre is located in the heart of North Park on University Avenue. It provides a needed stage for ballet, live drama, public speaking and or cinema.
Award Winning Restoration
The Odd Fellows Building which has received awards for interior as well as exterior design is an active neighbor. Claire de Lune, a coffee house located in the front corner of the Odd Fellows Building, is directly across the street from the theatre and is a successful entertainment venue.
Partnership in Restoration
In 1996, the Organization of North Park Businesses began the restoration and revitalization of the North Park Business District. Accomplished through a partnership of the North Park Community and the City of San Diego, this recent effort is producing noticeable results. Within the last year, the city coordinated a three block decorative streetscaping project featuring red-colored sidewalks, inlaid tile, historic storyboards, unique umbrella bus stops, seating cubes and new landscaping.
Our Government in Restoration
The City of San Diego acquired the North Park Theatre property with federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds in 1990. Their goal is that this theatre
be renovated and preserved
for present and future generations,
a living symbol of our city's heritage.
