ZERO RESIDUE KARMA

Synopsis

Zero residue karma is action that works out karma from the past and leaves no residue, or karma for the future.   The first key is going to the source of karma to glimpse our karma unfolding at that moment.  The snapshot may be confusing, so we pray to the highest positive powers we know (God) to understand it and know what to do with it.

We can use this knowledge for either temporary happiness through karmic resolution, or for lasting contentment through karmic absolution.  Then, with prayer and an absolute resolve to complete our karma, we offer every thought and action as a loving sacrifice, and incur no new karma as we neutralize effects from the past.

This site is an integral part of our other karma-related websites:

Explanation

Let us start to explain zero residue karma more fully with a glimpse of life in our house (HolisticVegetarianHouse.org).  Each member of our non-denominational, international spiritual family endeavors to minimize his or her own karma by thinking and acting with zero residue.    We draw introductory guidelines from principles which are common to all the major religions of the world, such as honesty, humility, and respect for elders.   In addition, we emphasize minimum violence and tolerance for difference beliefs and lifestyles.

It is not possible to live entirely without violence.   Every breath we take and every movement we make endangers millions of micro-organisms. Even war has a just time and place to work out karma.   The two most popular epics of Indian literature, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, illustrate the working out of karma through warfare. However, most of the violence in human life is avoidable. For example, there is no need to eat meat.   Vegetarian diet is not only freer of karmic side effects, it is also healthier than meat-eating.

Broad guidelines like these are just the beginning of the path.   Since karma is highly individualized, each person's path is unique. For completely zero residue karma, it is necessary to go to the source of karma.  Access is granted only when we demonstrate absolute loyalty to the universe.  If invited to the source, we can glimpse the flow of cause and effect from the wellspring of life.  Seeing the source is not enough; it is not likely that we understand the vision.  It is as if we have been given flour, sugar, butter, and milk, but we don’t know what to do with them.  We meditate and pray for assistance from the highest positive powers we know.  They tell us what kind of cake to make, and how to make it.

Regular contact with the source of karma, along with divine assistance to fulfill your mandate, are the way to complete your karma.  We can choose to use this knowledge for greater temporal happiness without reducing karma (karmic resolution), or for permanent satisfaction through completion of all karma (karmic absolution).  Zero residue karma is practical action for karmic absolution.

A more traditional, religious way of saying this is that every day you read the next page in your Divine Plan to know what to do, then you pray for assistance in completing your mission, so that you can fulfill your role in Divine Will.  We generally avoid such terminology, because organized religions have no ability to guide you to the source of your karma.  The source of karma adapts to you wherever you go and tells you in advance what you to do to learn the maximum from each day’s experience.

Karmic absolution and karmic resolution are concepts.   Zero residue karma is practice that leads to absolution.
