PRINCESS LOUISE, SAN PEDRO, 1990

Former coastal liner, Princess Louise, served for years as a restaurant ship in Los Angeles Harbor. Shown above at her berth below the Vincent Thomas Bridge. This berth is now the home of the LANE VICTORY.

After the restaurant had failed, the Princess Louise was seized by the bank and moved from her berth at San Pedro and tied up at the ship yard on Terminal Island, next door to the prison. One night, very mysteriously, she rolled over, sinking at her dock. A ship's security guard, in a TV interview, noted that the Louise began making loud sounds from below. She left the ship only to watch her heel and roll over in place within minutes. ABOVE - a view of the stern as she lay on her side.

Seen from across the channel looking at her Stb'd. Bow - here she is about half way through the refloating process.

EPILOGUE - Salvagers originally planned to re-sink Princess Louise outside the harbor as an artificial reef and scuba divers attraction. Impatient divers insistent on visiting the wreck during the refloating process so annoyed the owners that they revised their plans and towed the Louise out to the deepest part of the channel and sank her well out of range of divers equipment. Today she belongs to the marine life about 400 feet down.
