In Tacoma Washington, stands one of the most beautiful High Schools in the world, Stadium High School. It is my pleasure to present it to you as an example of how saving a photograph at various bit depths can produce very different results.

I scanned the original photograph as a TIFF with 16.7 million colors. On this page we see it as 4 different GIFs. The sky in the first 2 images loses some of it's appeal as the tones change, this proves to be distracting, But the bottom 2 images have their own unique appeal as the building becomes like a spooky castle.
