COACH’S CERTIFICATION CARD Cards are to be checked
before the start of every game by the referees. No coach will be allowed on the bench without a current
card. If no certified coach is
available by game time or to replace a disqualified coach, the game will be
forfeited.
GAME PLAYING TIME One minute between
quarters, five minutes at half time. 3rd,
4th, 5th & 6th graders play six-minute
quarters. 7th & 8th
graders play seven-minute quarters.
Boys and girls rules are the same.
ALL PLAY PARTICIPATION RULE The league follows CYO
rules. The first & second
quarters are divided into equal playing periods. All healthy, uniformed players must play a minimum of a full
continuous playing period during the first half. Every player entering the game for the first time must enter
at the beginning of the playing period and play the full playing period. The only exception will be due to injury
or disqualification. The team
with possession at the end of the first playing period of each quarter retains
possession at the beginning of the next playing period. Alternate possession rule will begin each
quarter.
PRESS A team with
a lead of fifteen (15) points or more in the 6th, 7th and
8th grade or ten (10) points or more in the 4th or 5th
grade may not be allowed to use a full court press. There is no press beyond the half court line in the 3rd
grade at any time.
OVERTIME PLAY CYO rules, as listed in the handbook, apply
to games tied at the end of the second half.
No game can end in a tie.
A jump ball will begin each overtime period. Each team will be given one additional time out. Unused time outs will carry over into overtime
periods.
THREE POINT SHOT The three point shot will
be allowed in the 7th & 8th grade.
FREE THROWS Only 3rd graders will be
permitted to cross the free throw line before the ball touches the rim. New rule for this year, only six (6)
players (4-defense & 2-offense) are allowed to line up during free throws.
HARASSMENT DURING FREE THROWS Players will be given
substitute free throws for unsuccessful attempts whenever there is bench or
crowd noise during the attempt. If
interruptions continue, the coach will be warned once and then given a
technical foul for subsequent violations.
TECHNICAL FOULS The second technical foul
disqualifies a coach or player. Bench
fouls are assessed against the coach.
Coaches may also be given technical fouls for not remaining on the bench
during the game. NOTE: Technical fouls
count as personal and team fouls.
TIME OUTS Each team will have four time outs to be used at
any time during the game.
JUMP BALLS A jump ball will start the game and all
overtime periods. Alternate possession
rule will be used to begin other quarters and for dual possession.
BONUS FREE THROW A bonus free throw will be
given on the 7th, 8th & 9th team foul, if
the first free throw is made. There
will be two free throws given thereafter for a common foul.
THIRD GRADE The third grade is an instructional
league. Therefore, standings will not
be kept and there will be no playoffs.
If one coach requests a line-up of players after playing periods,
quarters or timeouts so that they can match-up for defense purposes, then the
other coach is obligated to do so.
ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINKS, OTHER THAN WATER ARE
ALLOWED IN ANY OF THE TRI-VALLEY GYMS.
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ALL COACHES HELP TO ENFORCE THIS RULE SO WE DO NOT
LOSE THE USE OF ANY OF OUR FACILITIES.
IF THERE WILL BE TEAM SNACKS AND DRINKS, THEY ARE TO BE DISTRIBUTED
OUTSIDE.
AMERICAN
BOYS

& 6th Grade
There will be only one division of 8 or 9 teams. The first four place teams after the regular season will go to
the playoffs, with 1st playing 4th and 2nd
playing 3rd. Both teams that
make it to the championship game will represent the Tri-Valley league at the
Diocesan playoffs. The winner will go
as the AA representative and the loser will go as the A representative.
7th & 8th
