Here are a few great old radios, Ham, military and household types, that are on my list to be restored, at least to good working order. Most operate as they are now but they all need some T.L.C.

Below is a rather large photo of a U.S. Navy receiver type RBC of WW2 vintage. This radio was one of a set of three. There was a VLF (very low frequency) model known as the RBA, then came the RBB for mid bands and the RBC (pictured) for the shortwave bands. I have made the photo large to more clearly show the dial and meter markings.
This receiver's main problem is weight! It must be almost a hundred pounds of radio but really performs very well. With sharp selectivity, noise limiter, audio filter for cw, squelch and an audio limiter, it was way ahead of its time. (1944) What it does lack is an accurate frequency readout and bandspread. I have not found the other two radios to go with it, not that I'm looking, but I have found the correct tuning knob. (not shown) If you have seen my balloon page you may notice this very radio being used as the remote tracking receiver with a two meter converter as the front end.
Although this photo is rather grainy the RBC is visible on the right. On the top is a Swan 250 HF radio and on the left is a Gonsett "Goony Bird" 6 meter transceiver. Truly vintage stuff, but this was 1971! Check the balloon page for more.
More neat old radios coming SOON!
