OROZCO BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD!

SRV Training Camp

Anthony has been training with Coach Roger Werne working on the top end of his vaults

Fresno MLK

This turned out to be a satisfying meet as far as picking up were he left off last summer. Seeing Sean Jones who is now at CSU Northridge, with his support and advice on his vaults definitely help Anthony. It's great to see the presence of Sean after a 1 1/2 years since their last workouts together during the summer 2004 at Los Gatos all commers

Reno Summit PR 14'10"

Big Time Vaulters at the National Summit. Anthony had some big time vaults. Making all his vaults on his first attempts. New Pr of 14.10 with a 5 inch increase over his last PR. This was a great time for Anthony being around his vaulting buddies and coaches he met over the years. Thanks to Coach Roger Werne for his support in many ways.

Cal Berkeley All-Comers

Anthony's mid stride was off and not consistant during his runs. Slight breeze with cross and tail winds. He had help from the Granada High Coaches who stayed to assist with his vaults. It was just not his day!

Simplot Games-Pocatello, ID

This meet was a great field of Vaulters! Spencer Mccorkel going 17'03" stealing the show from Scott Roth who cleared 16'9". These two guys are one and two in the USA. Anthony had great vaults at 13'9", 14'4", 14'9" his 15'3" vault just missed as he had the clearance but hit the bar his chest coming down. On his 3rd attempt he moved up to a 15.6 pole and had good height but came down on the bar. He had a good finish coming in 7th out of about 35 vaulters.

Mt. Pleasant Scrimmage

This meet had so many distractions from the high jumpers being right next to and on top of the pole vault runway and kids working the standards not putting correct placement. Hope this will not be the norm this year!

Mt. Pleasant Relays

The meet had some top vaulters from the area (kyle Mills-bunje, Casey Roche, Ben Sheehan). All of Anthony's vaults actually looked good with the exception of lack of penetration as his stardards were all the way forward. This was a cool/cold day with a head wind playing a big factor on lower heights today from this field of vaulters.

Newark Memorial Invite

This meet ran late as Anthony's first vault was at 6:30, it was cold/windy and planting of the pole was in the dark. Not the best of conditions.

St. Francis

Anthony has been struggling the last few meets. Combination of no practice, being sick with the rain and cold weather. He needs to get well and back on track. Casey Roch and Kyle Mills-Bunge had big vaults today clearing 16'0" and both just missing 16'6".

Newark Memorial

Rain, Rain and Rain, vaulting cancelled. Make up vaults next day.

Stanford Invite

Rain, Rain and More Rain. Vaulting cancelled. This has been like this for the month of March. No Practice due to Rain and other situations.

Hampton-Phillips Classic

Finally a meet without rain in the bay! Athony just missing 15'0" on his third attempt. This day was a great confidence booster as Anthony's clearance on all heights were impressive. This is something he has been struggling with and lacking on his vaults.

Bay Area Top 8 - PR 15'3"

Anthony breaks school record with a 15'3" vault. Roth goes 16'10" and Shuler clears 15'6"
>

Sac MOC

Working with a new pole 15'6" 175 Anthony was not feeling it! This will only help him later on getting some vaults on it now!

Anthonys wins North Coast Section Meet Of Champions

NCS MOC

This was a windy day with some tail and mainly cross winds. After coming in at 13'6, Anthony took 3 vaults to clear 13'9" at this height he was not looking strong. Once he clear the 13'9" he had great vaults at 14'0", 14'6" and the winning height of 15'0". His 15'6" vaults were for a personal best. He now moves on to the State Meet.

California State Meet

This was the frist meet that I seen half the field of vaults have so much difficulty with the winds (head, cross, tail and dead). Anthony's first vault at 14'4" was good. His 14'10" vault was off using the wrong pole and adjustments of the standards. He was hoping for a 15'7 -16'0 vault at this meet. As he had good practice vaults coming into the state meet. Scott Roth gave everyone a scare both days by making his first height on third attempts. He went on to capture the state title at 16'11".

USATF Olympic Championship regional 14

The top 3 vaulters from this meet moves on to Baltimore MD. Anthony was seeded #2. During his warm ups his pole broke on his first full run. During the upward swing the carbon pole shattered in two pieces leaving him holding one as he landed on his neck and head fisrt on the mat and the other end of the pole flying about 30 yards in the air. Due to the nature of the incident the meet official will petition that Anthony move on to the National JO's in Baltimore, MD. from him being a State Qualifier and winning the Pacific JO meet.

The promise that Anthony had from the meet director turn out to be false. This dream of Anthony's now turns into a nightmare knowing he could had qualified if he vaulted.
