Mt. Pleasant- 1 foot crossbar increase until 12', then 6". Anthony had the height at 12' but had standards to far back on 3 attempt.
Newark Invitational- Anthony took First Place in Frosh/soph pole vault and for the first time did the high hurdle relay and came in 2nd place as a team event. He had a great meet here!
Kennedy Meet- Ran the F/S low hurdles took 1st place with a time of 11 seconds. This is without "any" training. School record is 9 sec.
American Meet- Anthony pull out of the hurdles due to hurting/sore body muscles.
Stanford Invitational- This is a Varsity event with starting P.V. height at 12 feet. So as a spohmore in this event, it's more for the experince of a big meet. (MANY SENIORS DID NOT MAKE OPENING HEIGHT)
Oakland Invitational- Had a good showing for being 1 of 2 sophmores in this Varsity event.
Hampton-Phillips Classic- Took first place, was looking to vault 11'6 this meet. Use a 14'0 130 pole for the first time in competiton. Broke a 13'6 135 at practice.
Newark- Anthony is at the point where he needs a new pole to increase on his vaults. He is currently bending the pole to much and is a safety matter now. He's being held back by not having the proper equipment.
Bay Area Top 8- What a meet! Anthony has been having safety issues with his poles. Not having the correct pole. His first Vault he landed in the box, lucky he came out without injury. After two more vaults on this pole, the washington coach let Anthony use one of his poles and what a difference in his vaults. Without this pole it looked as he was going to exit at 11'0". Anthony battled the vaulter from Los Lamos beating him out at 12'6" with his finally attempt. Thanks!, to the Washington Coach for his advice and Anthony's detemination his frustrations are over tonight knowing he has been held back due to lack of poles. 1st year Coach Gomez has done well in training with Anthony this year.(He's still without a pole!)
Sac Meet of Champs- This is by far the best competition this year. He went 12'6", there were only two vaulters who bettered Anthony clearing 13'. Out of 20 Vaulters he came in 3rd.
MVAL Finals- Anthony wins the Varsity Championship! Moves on the the NCS Bayshore Meet. His bodies needs some healing. Has pulled hamsting, pulled muscle in mid/side back and twisted knee.
NCS Bayshore- Came in 4th at 12 feet. Winning height was 12'6". Anthony pulled out of competition at 12 feet due to hamstring pain. Not wanting to further injury himself looking to the NCS Meet of Champions and Jr. Olympics still ahead this summer.
NCS Meet of Champions- Took 8th place in a field of 24 vaulters. This meet represents 167 schools. Anthony's mark of 12'6" tied for the highest mark by all non seniors. This was a great meet for him. He did not practice all week due to hamstring pull. It did not flare up until vaulting at 13 feet. We thought Anthony was the only vaulter stressing of losing weight for the weigh-ins, but it seem to be case for most the MVAL vaulters.
Pacific USA Track & Field: This was Anthony's first meet in 3 weeks with no practice. He was looking to make his PR. He came in 2nd with a vault of 11'6". He's looking at this meet as of getting the practice that he lacked and the time off gave his body time to heal. He's hoping to get some help with practice so he can bring out the mats and have some vaulting practice before the big meet in Sacramento.
JO PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP- Anthony took a beating on every vault he took at this meet. It was by far his ugliness meet as he was having pole problems and getting over the crossbar and landing on the bar.
JO REGIONAL 14- Anthony was looking to vault a 13+ in this meet. He vaulted under his PR. Bottom line he finished 5th in the regional 14 area (nor cal, central cal.)5th best, not bad.
LOS GATOS- Anthony broke Logan High Sch. Frosh/Soph record set in 1991 by Alex Gordon of 13'3/4". Anthony's record PR was 13'1".
"Special Thanks" to Sean Jones, John Besmer and Scott Slover while Anthony was at the All-Comer Meets in Los Gatos for the great help and encouragement given to Anthony during his quest to break the Frosh/Soph record.
During this same period of time Eddie Seese was very kind helping Anthony along with the correct pole selections.
* Top 8 will qualify for the Regional 14 USA Track & Field Regionals which will be held at Fresno.
**Top 3 will go on to USA TRACK & Field JR. National Olympics in Eugene, Oregon.
