ABOUT
Ever since moving to Los Angeles in 1982, I have been intrigued by Frank Gehry's buildings. His evolution as a creative artist is evident in the many examples of his local work. Earlier buildings such as the California Aerospace Museum, the Chiat/Day HQ and the Edgemar complex are easily accessible. But during the last few years, Gehry's work has taken a new turn. Aided by a computer program called Catia, he has used technology as a tool and a partner to introduce a new vocabulary of architectural style. The fluid lines of the Guggenheim-Bilbao and the Experience Music Project in Seattle are just a harbinger of things to come.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall will be the new home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The 2,293 seat hall is being designed as a surround hall with the audience in front, on the side and behind the orchestra.
As a frequent guest musician with the LA Philharmonic, I am especially interested in Disney Hall. I have tried to visit the site every 6-8 weeks and photograph the construction process. Enjoy the photos and please feel free to email me with your comments.

I met Frank Gehry in Helsinki in September 2002 while on tour with the LA Philharmonic. He happened to show up at our closing night party, hosted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. My wife said to me, "That looks like Frank Gehry..." and it was! It was a thrill to talk with him and to tell him about this web project. He was excited to hear about it and made me promise to call his office and remind him of it.
