2000.11.14 - Confusion... Listening to the radio today, I heard of a lawyer that had received an inquiry from a potential client. The person claimed that his numbers had been picked the previous evening in the state lottery. Upon looking at the ticket, the lawyer noted that the numbers were totally different from the winning combination. The person replied that he had selected the wrong numbers because the form was confusing, and his numbers were the winning numbers. He was asking who he could sue....Seriously, the hoopla over the election is getting out of hand. I think it reasonable that the counts and recounts be allowed until the absentee ballots are received and tallied - presumably by this coming weekend. At that time we should have a winner - by whatever margin and party. The idiots that are promoting a Gore concession, before the absentee ballots have all been received, are smoking something. The election isn't complete until those votes are counted. Hopefully, we will have a new President-elect next Monday.
Hail to the Chief!
2000.11.15 - It's Cold!... OK, so I've gotten soft in my aging years. Although I grew up in the Midwest, and worked for four years in Minnesota, winters in California still seem a bit more than chilly to me. It wouldn't be so bad, except for the 6:00am 1-mile walk with Sadie. I layer up with sweat pants, two sweat shirts, flashlight, gloves, stocking hat, dog treats, and "poopy bags" and off we go. Lately, its been a "Dawn Patrol", occurring close to sunrise. Anyway, with substantially less insulation on the old bod, it seems COLD to me.
Exercise does seem to counteract the effects of the wind. While out one evening, I came back with my bottom layer sweatshirt quite damp after working up a sweat during my walk.
I must apologize for the rather stark picture on the DietProgress page. I was experimenting with the self timer feature on the digital camera, and that was the best of 4 test pictures taken. I'll try to get Vicki to take some better shots of Sadie and me this weekend.
2000.11.17 - Getting Smaller!... I had an email from a gentleman that had posted to the newsgroup alt.support.diet. He had lost 40+ pounds in 6 weeks, and was interested in a co-worker. Unfortunately, she did not have the same feelings for this individual, but had not close the door either. I left a message of support and my web address.
He had accomplished his rapid weight loss using a liquid protein diet (NOT RECOMMENDED!!). He indicated that at one time, his weight had been as high as mine (330) and that one of his goals was just to be able to buy closthers "off the rack". Boy, can I relate!!
At my largest, I wore a size 20 shirt, 54 pants, 3XL everything, and provided the local Big & Tall shop with a fair amount of business. Now, although I have quite a way to go, I can fit into a 48 pant, 18 1/2 shirt and 2XL everthing else. At least now I have the choice of many things at J.C. Penney or even K-Mart!
On a serious note, although I sympathize with the desire for quick weight loss, the liquid protein diets can be harmful. In addition, losing weight at a slower pace allows you to develop a new routine that support continued weight loss and/or weight maintenance - and thus leaving you with less of a chance of regaining the weight right away.
Having been on diets that employed fasting, liquid protein, I can speak from experience.
Slow and steady will win the race...
