2000.12.23 HALF WAY ... - It's time for reflection. Thirty six (36) weeks ago, I got serious about wanting to lose weight .. for the LAST time. As we approach the new year, I have just hit the half-way mark. It is hard to believe that I was carrying over 70 lbs more around at that time. That's the equivalent of:

The benefits of the weight loss are undeniable. Although I have never been real athletic, neither have I been a couch potato. I've alway been able to walk long distances without running out of breath. But, the weight loss of this year has seen the following benefits:

  1. I have lost 10 inches from my waist.
  2. I have lost 2 1/2 inches from my neck size.
  3. I eat more vegetables.
  4. I eat more fruits.
  5. I eat less chocolate / candy / junk food.
  6. I have been TOTALLY weaned from fast food!
  7. I can walk 4 miles in an hour.
  8. I can jog longer distances without running out of breath.
  9. I survived Halloween without too much damage
  10. I thoroughly enjoyed Thanksgiving, and had a weight loss that week.
  11. My sleep is better.
  12. My BMI has been dropped from 42.4 to 33.1
  13. I have had SUCCESS where I had failed before .. success in staying motivated, success in seeing the end goal as achievable, success in adopting a new way of eating as a permanent lifestyle change.

The Milestones for the new year include:

As for my Millennium Challenge, my Mini-Goal was to lose 35 lbs in the 11 weeks ending January 1, 2001, resulting in a weight of 250 lbs. I'm going to get close. But, it has been a challenge, another piece of motivation, that has gotten me close to goal.

Happy Holidays.

9 days to go, weight 257.75, 7.75 lbs to lose for Mini-Goal.

2000.12.26 Christmas + ... - We had a very enjoyable Christmas this year. Lissa is home from school, and we went to Vicki's sister's home for dinner. Both of them have been using ediets to assist their weight loss. I snapped a picture of Vicki, to compare with one I took last Christmas.

Quite a remarkable difference... And there is more yet to come (off!!)...

This morning, I walked the dog for her 1 mile constitutional. Feeling pretty good, I went out & walked another 3 miles. I received a new pedometer as a gift & decided to give it (and me) a workout.

I've mentioned before that Vicki & I are going to walk the San Francisco Bay-to-Breakers in May. The course measures 12K or 7.6 miles. Crazy that I am, I decided to work off yesterday's dinner & snacks, I set off on a circuit that Vicki had previously measured as 6+ miles. When I completed, the pedometer said I had gone 6.63 miles (11654 steps) in about one hour forty five minutes. As I write this, an hour later, I'm no worse for wear .. except for some aching ankles.

6 days to go to Mini-Goal.

2000.12.29 GOALS ... - We are motivated by goals - be they dealines, milestones, resolutions or whatever. I'm a bit competitive and so motivation is not hard for me to find. On the recommendation of Fred at OneFatMan.com, I suggested a SportBrain would be a neat Christmas gift, and SURPRISE !! I've had a lot of fun using it. It is an electronic pedometer that saves its data & uploads it to a central website for analysis and graphing - totally neat. It has the ability to determine when you are walking, jogging, etc., and for how long, when, and makes all the information available to you.

For added motivation, they offer "rewards" that you can enroll for, and win if you achieve a minimum number of steps over a specified multi-day period. I started too late to earn the current "reward", but I'll get the next one (50% off a SportBrain tracker).

Anyway, I went out this evening to take my hand at jog/walking. It started out OK ... until my jeans started to slide down. My belt was hitched up to the last notch. Let me tell you, it's darn hard to jog with your pants sliding down over your butt. So, I continued to walk the 1.5 mile circuit at a brisk pace, and will try again tomorrow.

* * * * *

I've had this gnawing feeling in my tummy off & on today. Even though I had a 6-inch Veggie Delite at Subway at noon, my stomach was growling by dinner time. Usually, in the past this was a sign that I was going to have a good weigh-in.

We'll see.. :O) Weigh-in tomorrow.

3 days to go to Mini-Goal.

Thank You for Visiting!!
